GranTurismo Maserati GranTurismo

The Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio are a series of grand tourers produced by Maserati, succeeding the Maserati Coupé and Spyder.
Actually, there are many great American designers, but most seem to do their best work for foreign manufacturers; there seems to be something about the US corporate culture that stifles real creativity ...the same is true for the British.

Very true for American car companies. It is disgusting, but GM is showing some real signs of life as of late, but then again they're getting most of their inspiration from their European affliates.

True Rob. But I still think that British cars (AM, Bentleys, RRs, Jags) are designed with more passion compared to american ones. The problem is that most of american cars have been all about practicalities leaving style for high end cars only (e.g Cadillac)....untill recently where style has become in their priority list.

What will the GranTurismo be like to drive?

Maserati has worked hard to give the GranTurismo a 49/51 weight distribution; its wheelbase is 126mm shorter than the donor Quattroporte mechanicals, and the suspension is tuned differently, too. It is heavy though - not surprising since it is bigger than the Gransport at 4880mm long, and tipping the scales at a meaty 1880kg.

The GranTurismo will be offered with an automatic gearbox equipped with what Maserati calls an adaptive control system, that adjusts itself according to the driving style and the conditions.

It's pretty big i'd say...

Heavy indeed. But SL is way to heavy as well and they're in the same class, still not track cars though, none of them... So, no problems at all, imo...:usa7uh:

The SL is a roadster..
this is 6er class.. the closest MB has to this is the CLS

Granted that the GranTurismo is a GT, but it's still supposed to be a sporty sort of car... Remember that the Gransport and the Coupes before it didn't come with automatic. They were uncomfortable, fire-breathing Cambiocorsa (sequential manual) machines that were jerky and generally pretty unreliable.

Now I see Maserati taming the beast a little... But I hope it's still a beast inside. Don't want to see another MB/Audi/BMW kind of car... ;)

Ok, GT, i agree, but still, the SL is way too heavy, even for a roadster.

What I was trying to say is that I didn't want the Maser to be a car that has become conventional. By conventional I mean with an auto box, with everyday useability, with a sort of cold efficiency that doesn't quite gel with what Maserati is all about.

I like German cars for all of the above (efficiency, useability) but sometimes I want something different.

I want the GranTurismo to have flair, to have its passion.
