Fun is more than just a straight line! And, it should last for more than just 402 meters 
Seriosly, M5 are no dragqueens, its a highreeving car with the torque coming high up in the register. Not a good solution if you want a fast 402m car.
Whats up with the E-class, seem like he was warming up the tires? Why is the car using different rims on the back wheels?

In quarter mile run, without launch control, usually you warm up the tires so they stick to the track and you can take off without sitting there spinning, so therefore there is no loss of time.
Quarter mile run is plenty to judge a car. These cars are getting too 120mph. Its pretty fast. And it shows how fast the car can get there. These are real runs. Not to everyone is it important to see how fast you can get too the speed limiter at 155mph. It is the best kind of run on stock cars with limiters.

Anyway, if you check carmags and their 402m numbers, both M5 and E55 are similar to 402m. E55 has more low torque than M5 which means the car takes off faster. We all know M5 beat the E55 the faster they drive.

I never seen a carreview were E55 is one second faster than M5 to 402m.
Probably one of this three reasons why this E55 was one second faster.
1. Its not stock
2. The reartires are probably tires with really good grip.
3. E55 driver is a better driver than the M5 driver.
EDIT: the M5 owner can be found at m5board.com and apparently the E55 was modified. Also you can see the E55 warming up and using other rims on the backwheels which probably means the car use specialtires. I guess no 1 and 2 were correct. two out of three, not bad

Just_Me, yomomwhat, here's the deal....
There is a certain type of edicate that is a must on a forum. You are each brand fans,
yomomwhat favors MB, and Just_Me favors BMW, which is great. Not unusaul at all. However the E55 won doesn't matter because it did, no matter who says what and how long the race is or whatever. Its almost like saying that M5 always wins because of launch control, which E55 doesn't have. Either way it doesn't matter, its just a run.
I deleted yomomwhat's post becasue it was blatantly offensive. Yomomwhat, there is no reason to say certain things. One believes on thing the other believes another... so like i said, let it be. No one here is a troll. Just_Me brings a huge amount of info and video's and so on that is incredibly usefull and new. He has his points and so do you, but please refrain from posting the way you have. Its just hurtful.

To me still makes no different. I would not trade my M5 for another E55 at this time. I'm having too much fun in the M and the only car I would replace it with is a M6. While I truly LOVE the 55K cars, I enjoy the M a wee bit more. You have to drive both extensively to know what I'm talking about. The M must and I mean MUST have had the 1200 mile service to understand what I'm talking about.
There were several E55s that day, some of them used 17" wheels and drag radials. Two stock E55 was there as well, times changes from 12.2 - 12,6 sec. Their conclusions were that E55's was faster off the line than the M5 but the M5 has higher top end speed.
