from what i've gathered from reviews:

positives:
chassis, comfortable suspension, engine, design (highly subjective), dynamics, sound, stays well planted

negatives:
can feel the weight when pushing it to the limit, brakes should be carbon ceramics, soft suspension causing a lot of body roll

I think Clarkson exaggerated the issues for good television. You should decide for yourself after driving the cars you are interested in.

i'd say it's justified, maybe tanahashi should've been the chief engineer

Don't think it was the fault of the chief engineer. He has many sports cars to his name like the Supra MK4, MR2 etc. The weight issue is more due to bean counters. The three-in-one Frankenstein chassis to achieve the desired rigidity, is the best example of that.

true, they should've focused more on weight rather than stiffness, or both

neither of the 3 cars that the chassis is built on had weightsavings in mind and that's what makes it so heavy

there's a rumour that it'll have yearly updates like the GT-R and hopefully it'll have suspension update (11' IS-F suspension upgrade) but the best option qould be to make a track-biased verion ala nürburgring edition

Yeah, they apparently wanted to kill to birds with one stone. Make it rigid enough to be a convertible.

Yes, most likely.
 
I would've considered buying this if it had a traditional manual, but no thank you as the M4 wins in that category. I'm very old-fashioned in that regard and will not consider a two door without 3 pedals (only my first car and "shared" G55 were automatic). Hopefully next year the M4 will be possible, as I am still saving to build my own house (without parental assistance).

Not only that, the IS-C was based on the Toyota "N" platform, while the GS (L10) and IS (XE30) are on different versions of the "New N" platform. The former has a very outdated chassis. The next RWD-configurable Lexus modular platform will debut with the next LS in 2016, so anything preceding that had to utilize either the "N" or "New N" or both. One may have seen this coming, when RC-F mules were being tested in IS-C bodies back in July 2012.

I am also perceiving a shift at Lexus, to be investing more on the upper end of the line-up and as a result, certain extra efforts are not seen in subordinate models. It is obvious that going FCEV with the LS, is requiring a lot of investment (multi-billions), that is seeing other models get merely heavy refreshes and not full redesigns or corners being cut. One really hopes those sacrifices were worth it, for future halo plans and top-down effect with flagships.

That solution may have not been a waste. Despite some unverified rumours, I am 100% certain that cabrio is going along as planned. Apparently Toyota does not respond to rumours about ongoing developments, whether accurate or inaccurate. They'd best not wait more than 1.5 years though between initial RC launch and cabriolet launch. Lexus personnel were shown a production cabrio last year before that LF-C2, but then again anything can change (if a company wants to waste R&D money).
 
Can't be much left of those tyres on the beemer. Lots of smoke in the beginning :D
