I don't know if it's just me or what but some part of the new Audi Q7 is trying to copy from the BMW, like the Idrive knob, rear manual side-window sunshades and the panoramic moonroof etc.

What are you guys thoughts?

Saw a Titan silver E70 4.8i w/ 21" BMW accessory wheels and ski rack, relaly really nice!!! The E70 has far more presence than the Q7, too.

It is the other way. Q7 has been in the market for over 6+ months now. BMW has learned from Audi. I like the X5 integrated screen in the dash board (iDrive) and finally they have addied buttons to make iDrive easier to use. All other features you have mentioned are already available on the Q7 before the new X5 was announced.

I am considering Range Rover HSE, Q7 and ML. I am a BMW fan and I know I will end up getting X5 but the exterior colors is very limited on the X5 compared to other brands! X5 has around 8 colors (many are similar) compare to 14+ colors available by the competition.

Try BMW Individual if it's available in your country. They have a wide range of fantastic colours.

Well, NOT exactly, I'm not just talking about the 2007 E70 X5, the X5 has been around for a little more than 7 years now (the E53, 1st generation of X5) and the iDrive has been around way before Q7 was introduced. iDrive was in the BMW 7 series for nearly 7 years now. iDrive was only put to the new 2007 E70 X5 and was not on the E53 X5 but has been used on the 5 series for few years now and was first introduced on the 2001 7 series.

So tell me how is it the other way around? Do you still think BMW has learned those functions from Audi???

I guess you are still very young person, aren't you?

Because - like I said many times before about this "copying" issue - you should know that usually car development starts 5-6 years before market launch! So it is impossible to "copy" a competition car which came in showrooms few months before a "copycat" car.

Saying that BMW (or any other carmaker) has copied other car (eg. Audi) that has been on sale already for a year or less, is quite naive.

Do you really think BMW went and developed new solutions for E70 when they had seen Q7? In a year? Designed, developed, found suppliers, tested new solutions, improved them, tested the production, started the production. In a year???

If you really think so you must be really naive, and have absolutely no clue about automotive business.

But - like said - if you are still very young, you are excused.

I'm confused. BMW might have been the first on the market with its controller, but what on earth do sunshades and moonroofs have to do with BMW in particular? Those features have been around for decades in various automobiles. Or am I missing something here?

Any claims of copying are ridiculous as Eni pointed out, these cars are in planning for years before they come out, I mean you pointed ou the iDrive on an 02 7er but what about this 01 Audi concept, if you use this logic you could say anybody copied anyone, it's called techonolgy advancement.

Its a SAV and not a lightweightconcept. The new X5 handles better than the old X5 so no need for weight savings.
