All that who har over Mercedes putting an F1 based V6 engine in a road car is all a bit meh, it's not an actual Mercedes F1 engine, just based off it. For 11 lucky people Lanzante are building 11 930 Turbos. It’s a '930' Porsche 911 Turbo fitted with a real life 1.5-litre Formula One V6 TAG-Porsche engine. Not a V6 built to copy that engine, but one of the actual units originally developed in the early 1980s that helped Niki Lauda, Alain Prost and McLaren to dominate the 1984 and 1985 F1 seasons.

This car is a copy of the 930 Porsche built to test the TAG engines back in the 80's. The ultimate 911 restomod??

Thanks for sharing @KiwiRob, now that is a Porsche 911 that would definitely turn heads, not for its looks but for its outrageous engine noise.

If somehow the specifications of the 11 standard cars isn’t quite extreme enough, Ross reveals what Lanzante plans to do with the last three engines destined for customer cars: “We’re also building three Championship models to represent McLaren’s title-winning years in ‘84, ‘85 and ‘86. They will be lighter, more stripped out and have even more power – about 650bhp,” he says rather nonchalantly.

With a kerbweight sitting in the low 900kg range, the Championship TAG Turbos will have a similar power-to-weight ratio to a McLaren Speedtail – which boasts 1000bhp-plus – while the standard car’s 500bhp-per-tonne is almost identical to that of a McLaren 720S.

Each Championship car will be adorned with a bespoke livery inspired by the title-winning McLaren of either Lauda or Prost. Plastic windows, a carbonfibre roof, rear-seat delete and more spartan interior help to save weight, while a roll cage and MoTec dash display add to the motor sport aesthetic. Again, there’s no power steering, power brakes or any form of electronic driver aid.

“The first Championship car will be on display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later in 2023,” Ross confirms.

With 650hp and 900kg range the car will be INSANE!

A new breed of thoroughbred.

With an iconic canvas, artwork and race heritage fuse together, to deliver the ultimate motorsport artcar.

The 930 TAG Turbo ‘SJ87’ by Lanzante / O’Gara Coach.

‘SJ87’ celebrates the achievements of former Formula 1 driver-turned artist Stefan Johansson. It is fitted with his very own race engine from the McLaren MP4/3 race car, which he drove at the 1987 Austrian round. Beyond this, the final design has been painstakingly hand painted by Stefan, in his trademark style, to produce a striking end result, combining his past and present passions.

Using the colour palette recognised from his McLaren racing days, the design includes the green shades from his iconic helmet design, inspired by his father’s nickname for him as a child, ‘Little Leaf’. Blues and yellow are a nod to his Swedish heritage, while red and white tie back to the livery of his McLaren racer, which has donated its special 1.5-litre V6 twin turbo powerplant.

If the hood ornament is included this is the nicest for far!

What does she bring to this photoshoot? I mean I'm definitely serious and stuffs. Next time move the bloody car out of the way and next time IG address. Not fair?😉

Name would be better LOL!

I wonder how many of the Tag V6's are left? How many were made? Lanzante must have brought them all back to a base configuration.

Lanzante has slotted a 1980s Porsche-TAG F1 engine into a 930 Turbo, and this is it!

TAG Champ.jpg

This isn’t an F1-engined 930 Turbo by Lanzante that pays yet more homage to the one-off F1-engined 930 Turbo by McLaren. This is an F1-engined 930 Turbo by Lanzante that celebrates McLaren’s three F1 world titles collected during its Eighties pomp.
Clear? Yeah, we know. How about this instead: Lanzante has filled three Porsche 930 Turbo bodyshells with actual Porsche-TAG Formula 1 engines raced by McLaren in the 1980s.

The same engines that helped both Alain Prost and Niki Lauda to race wins, no less. Which means 1.5-litre twin-turbo V6 screamers stuffed inside a classic Porsche bodyshell to produce something quite extraordinary.
This is the first of the three cars, and it’s called ‘Championship 85’, housing an F1-spec V6 that Prost deployed in his McLaren across the 1984, 1985 and 1986 F1 seasons. Scored a couple of podiums with it, too.

This Eighties powerplant has of course been given a thorough going over by a little known outfit called ‘Cosworth’. So-called ‘Cosworth’ - who brought you the Aston Martin Valkyrie and GMA T.50’s screaming V12s and are busy working on a V16 for the next Bugatti - have stripped the 1.5-litre sixer back, and fitted new pistons, conrods, valves, springs, cams, a new airbox, better cooling, and bolted a new exhaust onto the end of it for good measure.
Oh, and glued a “newly developed” pair of lightweight titanium turbos to the V6’s flanks. They save 8kg over the old units, apparently. They also help deliver a colossal amount of power: 625bhp, to be precise, inside a car that Lanzante says weighs just 920kg overall.

It screams to 10,250rpm now, and will push the 930 body right up to 200mph via a custom Porsche 993 six-speed gearbox (featuring bespoke ratios). As such, the shell has been stiffened, and lightweight F1-spec carbon fibre was used to build most of the body panels.
Yes, there are bigger, carbon ceramic brakes, and you’re absolutely right – there is a full F1-spec wiring loom inside with a new Cosworth ECU! Cool paintjob too. It mirrors Prost’s 1985 helmet design, resplendent in 18in Dymag magnesium and carbon wheels that again mirror the original McLaren Formula 1 car’s rims.

It’s suitably stripped back inside, with a pair of Recaros, a suede steering wheel and some harnesses your only companions. Well, that and the scream of an F1-spec V6 from the Eighties.

We’ll see the first of these three F1-engined 930 Turbo cars by Lanzante that pay homage to McLaren’s actual Eighties F1 car at Goodwood later this summer. Mark your calendars…
