Presented by Lada at the Moscow Motor Show, the C-Cross Concept is a crossover that hints at a possible future production model. The design uses a contemporary language and the platform was developed in partnership with Renault .

According to OAO AvtoVAZ, "the C-Cross gives the best indication so far as to what a future crossover will look like and a small inspired production version shouldn’t be too far off."

The C-Cross Concept is based on the C-class universal platform developed at AvtoVAZ in cooperation with Renault. It is based on the current Megane platform with a re-worked suspension.

MOSCOW — Russian auto giant AvtoVAZ kicked off a new design era on Wednesday with the debut of the edgy Lada Xray concept crossover at the 2012 Moscow Auto Show.

The concept's name refers to the X-shape on its face, which the company says will become the look of future models. AvtoVAZ said the Xray is not intended to be a production vehicle.

The new look may end up on production vehicles by 2015.

Along with the 2014 Mazda 6, the Xray is one of the show-stoppers at the 2012 Moscow Auto Show, with observers declaring that stodgy AvtoVAZ is finally shedding its Cold War-era styling cues and entering a new global era.

The Xray's design has western roots. It is the work of Steve Mattin, AvtoVAZ's new design chief who penned the 1997 Mercedes-Benz A-Class and current Volvo XC60. The British-born Mattin was the former vice president and design director of Volvo Cars. He told Car Design News that he intended to re-create AvtoVAZ.

"It's got a fairly long heritage and is a key player in the Russian market," Mattin said in an interview. "It's an interesting time."

Other details on the Xray include defined wheel arches, touches of chrome and an upscale interior with leather seating and a futuristic dashboard.

Edmunds says: X marks the spot on a new page in Russian automotive design.

Russia is a land of billionaires and given the country's military and scientific heritage I see no reasons why it cannot become a manufacturing force.

Ok. It's hot and I'm convinced. Now build it! With the money that oligarch are spending on yachts, English football clubs and properties there's plenty of cash in Russia to realize this car.
