Thats great with improvements but I live in Sweden and I rather buy a M6 than a SL500 with 306hp.

How do I let the top down in a M6? And thats 388hp now.

M

MB is not offering the 388hp DOHC V8 in the f/l SL where you live yet?
Thats odd.:t-crazy2: The new engine is part of the face-lifted package.

Thay just went on sale here in the US.

Nope I just checked prices and models from the latest carmag and it says 306hp for SL500.

I dont care how I do it in a M6, I still see the SL500 cost to much, I can choose a CLS55 for the same price as a SL500 in Sweden. SL is a beauty but Sweden isnt well-known for sun.

Okey, I just looked at MB Sweden webpage. SL now has 388 hp but still its a lot of money for SL IMO.

Lol , SL600 cost more than SL55 in Sweden, then my choice is pretty obvious that I choose SL55 over SL600 :D

Thought so, MB wouldn`t leave Sweden out of the f/l refinements.;)

I'm usually anti-Mercedes, but in this case I have to give the vote to the Merc. I'm voting realistically here instead of as a fan of one marque or another. The 6 convertible simply doesn't have an elegant look, and the Bentley is great I guess, but "elegant" just isn't the word I would use to describe it. I haven't seen a Continental GT covertible in person, though, so my opinion may be skewed. If it proves the same in person as in pics, I have to give this one to the Benz given the choices here.

*PS: Sorry, I did not get a chance to read the replies to this topic :eusa_doh:

Even though, IMO, the SL is one of the most beautiful convertibles in the world, this time, i vote for the 6er. It is bigger and prettier, and the most important, more exclusive. Hence, Greece is full of SLs

For myself, I'm not quite prepared to buy an (IMO) uglier car for the purposes of exclusivity and some measure of uniqueness. Getting a 6er isn't worth it.

It's only slightly bigger, too - L4820mm (+285mm), W1855mm (+40mm), H1373mm (+75mm); and is 1815kg (auto 1820kg) vs. a 2003 SL500's 1845kg (not sure about new SL550), and that's with a soft top.

It's enough to make it a 2 seater with enough room for 2 midgets or 2 kids. I say, I wouldn't bother - these cars aren't bought for practical reasons anyway, and thus I'd even rather take the smaller car, the SL.

I wouldn't call it slightly bigger, the SL is the small one in this comparo. The 6er and the CGT are true GT Cars IMO. The SL is a roadster.

190.2 inches vs 178.5 is slightly bigger? I don't think so. The 6 has the dimensions of the 5 series or e-class. The SL is wide for its class, but it should be compared with other roadsters like 911 cabrio or Z8 (if they would still build them).

The 6 and the CGT have soft top and that adds to the 'Elegance' factor. The 6 Series is the real champion for me here

Thats so true!

Come on Giannis, the 6-Series is beter looking than the SL which you yourself called "one of the most beautiful convertibles in the world"? The SL being a commercial success shouldn't be held against, believe me there is nothing any more "exclusive" about the 6-Series either. They sell well too, but the SL has been out longer. Not really fair to deduct points from the SL for that.

lOl, I agree with that Merc1.

Giannis, obviously you have your own strong opinions, but surely you don't really think the 6er is prettier than the SL .....do you?

The 6er is not really a pretty car at all - I think it is a more aggressive and masculine design than that of the SL's.

To me, the SL is quite feminine .....it really is a gorgeous car - I still think it's the best, and most desirable car Mercedes build, with the possible exception of the CL.

Personally I would never buy a 911 cab since I think that the coupe is better looking and that it would feel so wrong to own a 911 cab. With the roof cut off the car loses some of it's 911-ness.

very true! I always felt that way myself...

I actually voted for the Continental GTC. Why, you ask... Because its so damn good looking. VW has taken all the beautfull and elegant aspects and implemented in to the new continentals while leaving the pretentious and mundane elements out of it. Its such a flowing design, I dont understand why anyone can not like it...

Probably because it has the "wrong" badge on it :D

sure Roberto, but there's one think, i guess i didn't make so clear.
I don't say that the SL is ugly, or not so beautiful. I say the SL is BEAUTIFUL, and one of the best convertibles out there. But i'm fed up with it. IMO, now it starts to look old (kind of dated). Even though it looks old, it doesn't loose its elegance. I think it turns into a classic. I have got bored of it
On the other hand there is the 6er. I'm not sure if it's beautiful, but definitely it looks good and fresh. And that's very important. Other than that, it also looks agressive and masculine, and a lot of other adjectives. I like it now, so it gets my vote.
:t-cheers:

I understand Gianis .....I really like the looks of the 6er too.
