Techinical question for the M1
It s proberly a turbo engine. So how will they solve the throttle response which is so famous and popular under the highrev ///M engines.
Why did they not choose a 3.0 highrev motorsport engine instead of turbo. Money?
Please don t say Co2 because if thats so important they should not bring a x5M with 325co2 in the first place.
Although the car utilises Twin Turbo technology. The M division engineers are working full hilt to establish something special with this car.
efficiency is very much the foreword now. The X5M etc were built to satisfy specific cutomers in key growth markets for such premium concepts and the cars have both been successful in this area

SCOTT whats about the Z2 twins and a Z10 ???
As announced at the recent Geneva MotorShow BMW announced that compact will be premium in reference to the 1er which showcases the needs that have been identified that customers will pay for smaller premium concepts. The 1er Platform will generate many new models.
The Z2 and Z2 Roadster have been greenlit and due by 2013 and other concepts identified are being identified as we speak. The expansion of the compact platform is to offer compact models with a range of sustainable powertrains. If such a Car exists (Z10) then it would follow The strategy as seen by the Vision Efficient Dynamics. Which means either a three cylinder backed up by an electric motor to complete it's output. As a high end Car like a Coupe or Roadster? The general consensus is pushing forward with the Performance orientated luxury of the CS cars instead of getting our fingers burned for the third time because of the poor respeonse to the 8er and Z8.
@Nikos120i
Scott...concerning the 1er and future 3er there has been some speculation regarding the engine lineup (from AutoBild) that would include a 1.3turbo gasoline engine and a 1.6T engine.
Is it true?
What would the engine lineup would be like for 3er and 1er?
thanks!
The idea was in our current low end range of four cylinders the engines were highly efficient ,made their targets and conformed to future legislation. The larger engines were dealt with first allowing the resources to develop even more efficient engines for the next generation 1er and 3er. All BMW petrol engines will go Turbo and be offered in three,four,six, eight and twelve cylinders. The 1er begins this new era as the car is highly important for BMW. The new 1er will feature many innovations for a new BMW.
@Adam3k
Is the F30 really being pushed up because of the recent slow sales and growing competition? Will the F30 be a mini 5 series, as it looks to be on the mules?
It's not being pushed up because the car will debut in November 2011 prior to a Geneva 2012 launch. Sales have not dropped everywhere and there are still markets with significant customer base.
It wont be a 5er just as the 7er is not an enlarged 5er. It will use the latest design language but each car as evident from todays 5er and 7er get their own individual appearance.
@ Potential
Will there be a 1 Series sedan this generation, to make up for the ever increasing size of the 3 Series sedan?
There is no demand for a 1er in other market except for North America.
The problem with a 1er sedan is that in europe especially Germany BMW rely on fleet contracts for business and local government such as Polizei fleets for the 3er Sedan and Touring especially car like the 320d.
If the 3er is replaced by a 1er sedan the car might not be suitable for such demands that fleets will refer to our competitors for their supply,highly significant when the German Government have ordered several hundred 320d "efficient dynamics" for local fleets.
European customers are happy with the Sporthatch and find it is more than adequate for their requirements.
@ Hector
scott, can you give us a release date for the next-gen 1er in the u.s. which i presume will be a hatch(unless the u.s will again only get the coupe in 2013)? also can you give us an idea of the engine line-up, specifically what will be the top non-M model(i.e. 135 replacement)? thanks!
It is not known whether the 1er Sporthatch will be sold in the US, because Premium hatches have virtually no market. Every manufacturer for the US is downsizing because petrol is too high. If Gas prices returned to normal everyone will return to their original choice. And smaller compact models will be to specific market. US will get the Coupe and Cabrio , The next 1er will receive a performance model underneath the M this is currently under discussion to use Tii for these cars which will include the Coupe and Cabrio and to challenge popular competitors in Europe the sporthatch will get a performance model.
OK that is all questions answered for now. If you intend to post a question please just post the question without additional feedback it will make it easier to answer the question than contributing to the debate.
