JLR makes loss as sales slide

However a big facelift for the XE and XF is around the corner and hopefully a refreshed exterio...

So, what about the XE then? I've never driven one, but all tests say, that XE (and the Giulia) are the benchmark in class regarding driving dynamics ... and they pushed BMW in refocusing the G20 on outstanding driving dynamics ...
Truth? Is the XE that good? And - in this context more important - is it/was it a sales success?

Jaguars do drive well but as been mentioned a few times here, the interior is not aspirational and more crucially prices are high. Range Rovers aren’t better than the Germans in any category but they looks stunning, something which cannot be said about the XE or XF.

This 3 quarter view is so bland you could mistake the XE for a 6 years old Ford Mondeo.

Most importantly, the evolution has been for the worse. From the back in the day gorgeous XF to the current one, with its fugly glasshouse, there is a huge difference...

The XE was a terrible mistake. Given how much Volvo has turned around over the last two generations of cars, Jaguar could have done it, too, and actually get away with a small premium over the equivalent A4, 3er and C.

But with a mediocre design and an unacceptable - for the segment - interior, they just didn't offer a competitive product. Add to that that joke of the Ingenium engine...

Ian Callum seriously need to step up his game. He is great at designing coupes but weak at sedans and estates.

The Jaguar XE and XF are not unpleasant to look at, but they are terribly anonymous. And their interiors are not very welcoming. Very rare sightings here in Germany.

It's not that he wanted to design mediocre saloons. Just look at the iPace.

It's the bean counters that made him do it. Case in point is the new XF's C pillar treatment.

The Velar is not nearly as ubiquitous as it should be by now.

Jaguar is completely off the pace interior wise.

Jaguar is near dead and LR only sells the original Range Rover in real numbers. Velar I don't think I've seen more than 5 times, and this is in western Europe, not somewhere in the middle of nowhere down under.

Yes they are. They look like cheap Fords, with only their RWD layout being different.

I have the opposite opinion that outside of driving dynamics, there is no reason to buy a Cayenne.

Cayenne like the Macan and like the Panamera are simple VAG platforms. Off the shelf part bin sharing, disgustng to the max.
Cayenne is a Touareg in drag. It looks ugly too, inside out. Like every Cayenne ever made, following that fine tradition.

So now that we have this out of the way....let's continue on JLR's fine products.

Jaguar Land Rover

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC is the holding company for Jaguar Land Rover Limited, also known as JLR, a British multinational manufacturer of luxury and sports utility vehicles. JLR, headquartered in Whitley, Coventry, UK, is a subsidiary of Tata Motors. Jaguar and Land Rover, with histories dating to the 1920s and 1940s, merged in 1968 under British Leyland. They later became independent and were subsidiaries of BMW and Ford. In 2000, BMW dissolved the Rover Group, selling Land Rover to Ford. Since 2008, Tata Motors has owned Jaguar Land Rover.
