World famous British automotive TV show Top Gear might be no more. Presenter Jeremy Clarkson said in the U.K.'s Sun newspaper this weekend the program won't be returning.
At the end of the last episode of the season, Clarkson closed saying: "We don't know when we'll be back." The BBC claims Top Gear will be back for a summer special, and will start a new season in the fall.
"After last week's Top Gear, the TV announcer said it would be back in the summer," Clarkson wrote. "Can I just say, it won't be."
Mr. Clarkson, and co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond are rumored to be in rows with producers over the future of the show. The show's management purportedly wants more celebrity appearances and less focus on cars.

The show's management purportedly wants more celebrity appearances and less focus on cars.
What the hell.

The world has become obsessed with celebrities. Most of the guests who appear on Top Gear are not even A-list celebrities.

Who cares about celebrities ...that's usually the most boring part of the show anyway. I thought the cars were the stars of the show.

Can't figure this out. Why on earth would one want to see celebreties on a car show ? There are zillion other programs, magazines, gossip columns for such people. Top Gear has always been about cars and why everyone loves 'em or hates 'em.

This seems quite incredulous. They have a good product which is extremely popular throughout the world. Why on earth would they want to mess with success?

They can F right off if they start giving more focus on Jamie bloody Oliver than a Gallardo Superleggera. Top Gear has gone way too far recently, and personally I'm get bored of the same challenges ruining everyone's life.

Seriously, if I were in London at the time of that Limousine challenge, I would that set 39 feet Fiat Panda Limo on fire with both Jeremy Clarkson and Chris Moyles inside of it.

Then you have the Vauxhall Vectra VXR review. That segment was clearly staged to make Vauxhall look ridiculous for Clarkson total disliking for the Vectra.

If they start staging segments based on the reviewers biases and giving more focus on celebrities, Top Gear certainly lost a regular viewer and Fifth Gear might have won one.

Actually, I'm lying. Fifth Gear might have lost a regular viewer as well.

Fifth Gear now have some serious problems, since for whatever unknown reason, they decided to rip Top Gear stunts where a car always end up destroyed, with a segment called "Wreck my Ride" which has got to be the lamest thing on TV ever since Big Brother.

I'm sure the Channel 5 would be able to finance a proper tuning on that Golf.

That video just shows how lame Fifth Gear has got in the past few series, so much in fact, they now have to resort to destroying a brilliant car for 'entertainment'.

The other problem with Fifth Gear is the new "Cafe" studio which is just plain, utterly, utterly ridiculous. But above of all else, I cannot stand that midget wanker Tim Lovejoy. What a Fking annoying little b*st*rd!

The era of the good British TV car programme is coming to an end...Thank the Germans for Auto Motor und Sport, Abenteuer Auto and Motorvision!

Of late, we can already see Top Gear veering off its normal automotive-based content with ridiculous stunts and "record-breaking" nonsense. I want to see more of the good stuff, not things like that!

With Fifth Gear already going into ruins, TG can't be allowed to fall into oblivion.:eusa_pray I hope the trio Jeremy, James and Hammond can start a show of their own if it's really necessary.

.

Yeah i have to say Top Gear is definitely getting a bit off the track. Their latest stunt, the limo challange isn't really funny. Nothing can ever top their space shuttle launch attempt.

They should definitely shift their focus back to more smoking supercars. It doesn't matter if they don't have crazy stupid stunts. If they review the cars in an interesting way, people will still watch it. I showed my car idiot friends a few Top Gear espoides and they loved it, even though those espoides doesn't have those crazy stunts.

ps. Sweet this is my 600th post, didn't realise it.

Well, I'm won't be tuning in either if it's a lame celebrity interview show. The whole thing doesn't surprise me, this current season was far away from the original point of the show. Re-using lines, re-using ideas with slight modifications.

I noticed that last season too: The show was starting to turn into some comedy show with no real car value and IMHO, this current season has been the worst one yet. The car reviews are getting weaker and weaker - Look at the LP640 review.

The celebrity take over is evident - especially when they plugged Music & Lyrics.

LOL, what an incredibly expressive post Kowalski ......the only thing I regret is I couldn't hear you saying these things in your [presumably] Manchester accent :D :usa7uh:

The part I always skip is the celebrity in an affordable car part. I just don't find it interesting at all. The best part of the show has always been and always will be the car tests. The challenges are ok. Sometimes it's hilarious but other time sit's a waste of time.

I might just drop Top Gear if they start pulling that crap and just watch 5th gear. At least they are still more car oriented.

Yes, and that is very sad IMO.

I totally agree, and the worst is that ''celebrities'' like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are so intersting to people that it makes me puke. I honestly don't care what did P.Hilton eat yesterday for lunch, where did she go out, which kind of dog does she have...To hell with that.
