Snap. Don't know who is getting canned over this rather large leak, but official pics of the Jaguar XKR that was supposed to make its world debut at the British Motor Show in July have made their way onto the world wide web. From what we know the XKR will come with a supercharged 4.2L V8 developing 416 horsepower. Available in both coupè and cabriolet versions, the hardtop will be able to reach 62 mph in 5.2 seconds with the droptop not far behind at 5.3 seconds. The ferocious cat's terminal velocity will be electronically limited to 155 mph.

Pricing for high-po XKR will be EUR 94,990 for the coupe and EUR 102,990 for the cabriolet. The visual changes lend a new look to this precocious cat that appears remarkably show worthy. From the hood scallops to the mesh grille and air intakes to the aluminum-trimmed air outlet aft of the front wheels, the XKR's got style aplenty.

It ain't that people have been hungry for pictures of the car. It really isn't that speciel since it is slower than the DB9.

Blah... it's not bad, but for this price range, there are so many better options.

Very good looking car IMO. It needs to be in British Racing Green, though.

But...

Am I the only who is not very impressed with the performance figures???

The grills look like aftermarket add-ons. I was hoping this car would grow on me and it sure hasn't. I have seen quite a few in the flesh, and they aren't that impressive.

Yeah I think so? The E39 M5 with less hp did better, and it was introduced in 1998? Today, with lighter materials and better engine output, the numbers are good, but not really impressive.

Hmm.. It's a good looking car, but it looks like a cheaper DB9. Ford should have let the engineers design something entirely different.

And what's that watch in your avatar Luwalira?

boring......They cant even get 100 hp per litre with a supercharger???? To be fair though its not really a performance car- they dont even offer a manual transmission (atleast I doubt it).

Tough room for Jaguar. I guess 420hp and 0-60 in 4.9 secs is not what it used to be. It seems you have at least 500hp nowadays and a sub 4.5 sec 0-60 time to be special.

I thought that article said the 0-100 time is 5.2s.

Nevertheless, I agree - the XKR isn't a sports car in the truest sense, it's more a powerful GT, as the 6er and the SL class. I wouldn't worry about that sort of performance. I don't think Jaguar have any illusions about their place in the luxo marque pecking order - so this car suits it fine.

I have to say the XKR looks better than the XK8, but the goofy, wimpy, too-small grille still looks odd. The different bumper and the quad pipes really help otherwise, though.

Not bad, but I don't think it'll be the sales success, even with mild expectations, that they need it to be.

Yeah its kinda sad for Jaguar when you look at it that way. The next S-Type is going to be the critical car for them because the XK being a sporty 2-door could never sell in big enough numbers to single handily save the company anyway.

The difference in the acceleration numbers, I was reading the Autoweek report which of course gives U.S. number for 0-60 mph, compared to the extra tenths of a second it takes to make it to 62mph/100kph. No biggie for the XKR still can't keep up with a SL55 or M6.

New Jaguar XKR Revealed
Source: www.worldcarfans.com

Jaguar is proud to unveil its new supercharged sports car – the Jaguar XKR. Building on the excellence of the all-new XK introduced in late 2005, the XKR takes the Jaguar experience to new heights.

Like the normally aspirated XK model, the new XKR makes intelligent use of practical, modern technology such as its industry-leading aluminium monocoque body structure. In addition, an uprated 420bhp (SAE) supercharged V8 engine and class-leading calibration of its state-of-the-art, six-speed automatic transmission bring it a level of accessible, real-world performance that makes the XKR the most impressive, everyday, sporting GT in its class.

And the XKR’s powerful statement of intent is emphatically reinforced by enhanced sporting styling cues such as a unique front bumper, aluminium-finish grilles and bonnet louvers; unique 19 and 20-inch alloy wheel designs and a quad-exhaust system add to its overall presence.

"The new supercharged XKR captures perfectly the essence of what makes a Jaguar XK so special," commented Bibiana Boerio, Jaguar Cars managing director. "It is a flawless combination of refined Grand Tourer and serious performance sports car, that delivers a truly rewarding and exhilarating driving experience."

New supercharged Jaguar XK sports car – the XKR, available as a Coupe or Convertible All the attractions and attributes of the XK – but amplified in the ‘R’ to complement the extra power and performance

4.2-litre, supercharged V8 engine developing 420bhp and 560Nm of torque
0-60mph time of 4.9 seconds and 155mph (electronically limited) top speed. 50-70mph in just 2.5 seconds.

All-aluminium construction means a lighter, stiffer car, improving handling and agility. At 1665kg, the Coupe is 70kg lighter than its predecessor, while the 1715kg Convertible is 100kg lighter than the previous convertible XKR

Uprated springs and dampers and recalibrated Computer Active Technology Suspension system for enhanced ride and handling. Class-leading six-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted ‘paddles’ for ultra-quick gear shifts. Active Exhaust System to ensure cruising speed refinement but purposeful V8 roar under hard acceleration.

Subtle XKR exterior styling enhancements include a sportier grille and front bumper design, louvred bonnet, unique aluminium-effect side power vents and new wheel designs. Enhanced interior includes unique aluminium ‘weave’ design on the fascia (polished burr walnut is optional at no extra cost) and XKR sports seats

Intuitive controls and driver-focussed technologies are available – including Keyless Entry, Keyless Start, advanced Touchscreen and Active Front Lighting. Occupies unique market position, with performance to match rivals costing up to £30,000 more but price to match less well-performing rival models

In summary, the epitome of a contemporary Jaguar Grand Touring sports car and a perfect illustration of the marque’s philosophy of building beautiful, fast cars. Available to order from July onwards, with prices starting at £67,495 – a premium of just 12.5% over the normally aspirated XK

wow the interior looks amazingly cheap..

Yeah...

But...Jeremy Clarkson said "It's crisp and modern...sort of expresso look."

Expresso??? Go figure...

Clarkson is also rabidly biased towards any and all British cars :P

It looks like garbage. Most people would rather have an SL55, or even *shudders* an M6.

I love the anti XK sentiment here!!! I wonder how many of you guys have ever driven, let alone sat in the new XK??? It's quite a looker, inside and out. Drives even better. Onto the XKR, I'm sure this engine will give the chassis more of the pep this kind of car needs over what the standard car gives the master. I love it!!! Next to an M6 though, a beautiful flower grown suddenly withers in intense despair in the dead of summer.
