Hot! Jaguar: What's Next?

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates
Misleading headline tbh, Jag has confirmed time and time again that this is an ev only platform, can’t see them creating a range extender.
If there is space in the frunk they might be able to stick a small engine in there as a range extender. However that's not V8.

True but I dont think people who are spending £120k on a luxury GT with a 3 or 4 cylinder range extender.

Would be a horrible look for them if they did that imo, would be better if they did a 180 like Porsche and said we’ll develop ICE alternatives. I think Jag buyers would like that much more than a range extender.

Build the Type 00 with a V12 and call it an XJS!

Proportions are divine.

The Achilles heel of the car will be a launch that’s 3-5 years too late. In one of the videos, they say that deliveries will commence in 2027. During that year there will be AMGs EV, shit ton more Taycans on the used market, EV M3 powered by Rimac batteries, NK X5, Cullinan EV, Bentley EV, facelifted EV Range Rover.

That’s a lot of competition that did not exist several year ago but will be rivals that makes Jaguar less innovative. I am also puzzled that in the auto car video the engineer is mainly talking about steering angle and handling. Apparently the cabin is cocooning. The car is 1.4m meter. If agility will be the main marketing angle it will be odd because the car will be too big to be a sports car but to firm to be a cosseting and relaxing luxury car.

I look forward to learning Heston this car is and who it’s for.

For what it's worth...

This is faaaar more interesting than the excessive, and usually anticlimactic, brouhaha generated with bling-laden facelift MoPF's, LCI's and whatever. And so what if it's not commercially successful ? So what if some folks say that it will fail because it's a BEV ? This Jag provides that special, authentic spice that can make the usual, artificial additives and leftover "Wurscht"-rich automotive stew tasty. Hey...the Brits can cook after all ! I just can't wait to actually see one in the metal.

Bon appetit !

They really aren't saying much and drifting on ice doesn't tell you much.

Yes...the preliminary buzz generated by British publications is predictable. But it certainly serves the purpose of whetting the appetite for those who may be in the position of actually affording the new Jag. This could also be construed as "strategically clever" at a time in which the "street cred equity" of top model line M-Bs and Audis no longer appears so unassailable, the G70 BMW 7er is polarizing and the Bentley Flying Spur is beginning to stale a bit. Far more extensive assessments of the car will come soon enough, I expect.

So much skepticism when the Concept 00 was presented...

But now...we may very well be on the verge of experiencing an extremely impressive, perhaps landmark vehicle. Must say...becoming more optimistic with each posted video.

And...parts of the footage in which the host or the technician are standing next to the side of the car show just how exciting the car's proportions are. At first, I feared that the hood length may be too excessively long. But now, I find it just perfect for this type of vehicle. Masterclass.

From what we can see, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have pulled ahead, remaining "almost" alone at the top, unlike in the distant past when competing top-end sedans held a substantial share of the market.

The A8's demise, the cancellation of the Lexus LS, and the disappearance of all Jaguar models are indicative of this. The migration towards large SUVs has meant that only the two most popular German sedans are selling "well".

And I haven't even mentioned the fact that this Jaguar is exclusively an EV. No one is mentioning the blaring message that Tesla just canceled the Model S. The world's best-selling electric vehicle brand canceled its most expensive "sedan" (and the Model X as well).

So I think this Jaguar won't have it easy (nor will the other expensive EVs from other brands).

The best and I think only card for Jaguar, in my opinion, seems to have a great design and will stand out from the rest.

This is becoming the automotive equivalent of the EU. Doesn’t matter if it succeeds or fails?
The media will still be willing to bat for it.

"Not having it easy" is almost certain. Not only in view of persistent, often irrational ideologically driven, skepticism regarding BEVs in parts of the EU and North America. But also current economic environments are not necessarily conducive to people flocking in droves to purchase expensive vehicles. Most certainly not in Germany, the EUs largest economy. And outside of London in the Jag's crucial home market ? And no clue nowadays where the U.S. is heading in general. China ? Competition stiff. Add the continuing stranglehold that SUVs maintain in the automotive market. Indeed, not the most tranquil of waters to navigate.

Maybe it's just me...but I'd be pleased to see this Jag succeed.

The Model S/X were old designs and hadn't had any real development money spent on them for a long time, it should have been replaced with a clean sheet design. Its lunch was also eaten by the Lucid Air. Why buy an S when a better car was on the market?
