Interiors and Details of my S430

Oh Jack, before I forget, I also enjoyed a 2005 S320 CDI (224-hp turbodiesel inline-6). Very nice car. It would smoke that white S320. You guys in America are missing out on diesel power (wait till you get to try the S400 CDI!). :D

Thanks for those images Chris...I think the diesel flood gates will open in late 2006 for 2007 model year cars. MB is already talking about making the E and ML 320CDI's available here sooner. If the low sulphur fuel thing is implemented on schedule in mid 2006, then we will see the 400CDI S here (my prediction) by the spring of 2007.

NJ... I bought new batterires for my Keyless go card, and used it today, pretty cool that i can close the doors with the little black button too. Im gonna try it for a bit! Useless option too me though.

No problem. The S400 CDI will offer virtually the same performance as the S430, it'll just be a lot more fuel efficient. ;)

Alex, I believe that you get both the SmartKey and the Keyless transponder when you get the Keyless Go option. You can start/stop the engine with either the transponder or the key in your pocket. I've started an E320 with only the key and I've started an S500 with the card only. Go ahead and see if you can start your CL with only the key. It's a nice feature if you don't wanna bother with the lock/unlock buttons on your key.

The only problem with Keyless Go is that it doesn’t work all the time, or maybe just here where I live. When I tried unlocking an S500 once with the card, it wouldn’t unlock the first try. I had to try all the doors and at last it did. When I got inside, I couldn’t start the engine with the card, so I used the key. The same happens to an E500 owner that occasionally parks on my street.

I think the reason it doesn’t work around here is that because the Empire State Building is blocks away from where I live. As you know, the antenna on top of the building transmits radio signals, which what the Keyless Go feature uses to lock/unlock and start/stop your car. I believe that it interferes with the system and that’s what causes it to stop working, at least where I live. I don’t know if Jack has had any problems with it so far, especially if he’s near high-rise buildings in LV with antennas on top of them.

Just in case you ever come to Manhattan, don’t use your Keyless Go ;)

Hey Yaz...there is no more "transponder card" with the KG option. It is all built into the Smart Key. I have not had any problems so far and I use the KG exclusively to start and stop the car and lock or unlock it with the key in my pocket.

There are no antennas on the hotels and casinos downtown (they are all on a mountain that overlooks the city) and the highest is probably 50 stories. No problems in the downtown area yet. You are probalby right about your location causing the problems.

I tried many times to do uit with just the key, but it doesnt work, my key doesnt have the chip, at the time only the card was in effect. Nowadays the chip is in the key so no more cards.

As for your friends perhaps they need a new battery i was having problems similarly when i tried to use it prior and it would work and sometimes not.

I replace the battery and Walla! It picks up signal from like 6 car lengths away.

Thanks Yaz.... i will see the link now....

That's weird, I really thought it was still available. The E320 I checked out was a 2003, so I guess it was built into the SmartKey already by that time. But I wonder why Alex can't start his car with only the key when his CL is an '03 with the same generation of SmartKeys.

Believe me, it's not the battery. It works just fine in other places. I tell you, it's not only that S500, it happens to all kind of cars. I've seen a 745i and S600 have trouble but it eventually works.
Other cars with after market alarms or cars that have lock/unlock remotes don't work either. The alarm won't disarm and drivers open their cars with the key and that's when the alarm goes off. If the alarm goes off, then you can't start your car.

Because I've lived in the area so long, I know how disarm it. There's a by pass button below the steering wheel that you can press and start ignition at the same time. I've helped so many drivers and they'd ask me how I did it and I'd show them and tell them why their alarm won't disarm :)

If you're ever in the city with your CL and you're driving up 6th Ave or down 5th Ave, give it a try and see if you can lock/unlock it or even start it. It's a phenomenon that not too many people know about :)

Wierd isnt it Yaz...

Nifty tactics you got there.... :usa7uh:

Next time in the area probably Friday i will try it out!

Very freaky if it works out like you said.

Our E320 is parked in an underground garage and I can open it up using the electronic keys from outside the place. :eek2:

That is kind of odd...the range is not usually much more than 10' as I remember on my E320. On the S I have no idea since I have never used the key to do anything...it's always in my pocket.

Check this out. When I got the the local Aldi to shop, I can open the E320 from even 40 meters away! Maybe European and North American keys have different settings? :t-hands:

All I know is that our E320 can be opened from long distances away at the push of a button. If I keep my finger down on the "LOCK" key, the windows and sunroof will open. If I hold the "OPEN" key down, the windows and sunroof go back up. In the R171 SLK, you can open and close the roof using those features. :D

i remember a thread, back at the original GCF forums, made by riatanas, on how can you increase the distance, that the key works! I remember that pointing towards your (right) ear can increase that range up to 100 meters!!!
Beleive it! It works for me!

I think he also mentioned pointing towards your nose..

or even touching you chin with the key, for some reason bone has an effect to it.

I could do that with my E320 also by holding the open or close key...included the sunroof also. The same is available on my S although I have not yet done that. This pertains to wimmers comments...not the nose and right ear techniques :D

You just keep on going and going....:hyper: :D

Pretty much. :D

But the older electric keys on my dad's '89 500SL have an operating distance of around 10-15 meters only. ;)

on my dads vw when you put the key up to my right ear it does increase the range by a bunch
he always yells at me for doing it tho because its going to give me brain cancer or something
that dosent stop me tho
