Interior swapping, could the next E-Class benifit from S-Class interior?

Just in case some of you havn`t noticed, there is a new trend going on among the German car makes. It`s interior swapping or "cheating" on the lower scale models to make them appear more upscale in design causing the lower models to loose their distinctive designs.

It`s a bit earily to tell but what would be your opinion of the E-Class (or next generation E-Class) with the exact copy of the S-Class interior, like what BMW has done with the new 5-Series. could the E-Class really get away with that? or is the S-Class interior just too upscale to "cheat" on.

You wanted to say "high-end models to lose their distinctive designs". Because those are affected. As simple as that: the new 5er benefited a lot from having almost the same dashboard as the 7er. It can be easily seen where the distinctive design started from and then was borrowed on new models.

Too early to talk about this, but might happen.

IMHO, the new CLS has the interior that should serve as a precursor for all upcoming M-B sedans and perhaps large luxury coupes such as the CL succeeding S-Class coupe. No almost carbon copy as seen in the current BMW 5/7, but rather dashboards similar in the flowing architecture as seen on the CLS abandoning the angular, boxy theme of current E and C class examples.

With regard to sportcars and roadsters, the SLS is a good role model. Gorgeous in its' functional simplicity.

I don't want to see the level of similarity BMW interiors have, and the S-class, CL etc, should always be more special. I do however want to see a stronger design identity across the range. At the moment there's far too much disparity in the MB camp.

I think the way BMW's doing it is lazy, and a huge disservice to the 7 (let's face it, what's so premium about that car, when it's simply a larger version of the 5?). I prefer M-B's approach in the Sedan range, although there's some redundant parts sharing in certain areas.

I feel the E and S have a family identity, but their own characters. I actually think the E's interior is a nicer design, but that's because I always found the W221's interior to be a bit toooo sparse, especially in that lower center console area (with all the large vinyl/leather and/or plastic surfaces). The materials on the S are of course superior, but I think that design got appropriated for a "sportier" more compact area, i.e: the E-Class, whilst getting a bit more modernized with some love it or hate it retro elements.

The CLS is exactly as it was last time: An E interior just more glamorized and and with fancier materials.

What I'm worried about regarding M-B interiors is materials. Seems they're downgrading in many areas, and based off my my gut feeling, and my research, it might get worse.

Anyone else believe some of the features of the next S-Class interior will fall on the 2017 E-Class? like round air vents, center clock and the speedo-tachometer readouts of the same size (instead of the dominat speedo dial, like all other E-Class models in history.) I believe theres a 90% chance this will happen. I don`t believe Mercedes will do a 100% interior swap like BMW has done with the 7er and 5er.

I do believe the next E-Class will move closer to the S-Class in some features and design.

The BMW 5er is actually closer to the 7er than the E-Class is to the S-Class. The CLS might have bumped the E-Class a little.

The 5-Series is already a carbon copy of the 7-Series. Nothing left to change there.


I don't like these round Bentley/Rolls looking vents in a Benz though. This is a German car, not a British one.

E-Class had them in the past. (Whats to British about it) this is a 1982 model.

E might get these again.

^I was talking about replicating the whole S interior but in a smaller package for the E class..
I do not see it happening..

Airvents or other small things might carry over..but thats ok by me

^There is something about the SLK..the last one took heavy influence of the SLR..and this one does from SLS..

I think its their selling trick..

I do not like the car anyway..and its about the only MB that look alike from inside..
