M3/M4 Interesting Article: M3 buyers are surprisingly young

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

The BMW M3. You might expect this $62,000 Bavarian hot rod to be best suited to wealthy middle-aged car nuts, but instead the car has the lowest average customer age of any model in BMW’s line-up.

M3 buyers are surprisingly young, reports Larry Koch, M brand manager for BMW North America. While the average age of a buyer is 41, many M3 buyers are in their mid-20s, and others are closer to 56 — older enthusiasts finally buying the car they’ve long wanted.

The holy grail of the automotive market, 20 year olds money to buy M3s. BMW's marketing and reputation speaks loudly here. This is what makes German cars so hot, particular BMWs and Mercedes, both young and old want them in varying degrees. Land Rover also has huge inroads into the young with money demographic.

Not surprised at all, I have seen many kids with their P-plates driving around in their spanking new M3, my friend's parents bought him a new M3 when he first got his licence. Many wealthy parents just give the kids the money and the M3 is their choice because it is big enough with 4 seats so they can show off and drive their mates around. Then you will end up seeing photos of a brand new M3 wedged itself around a tree, street light or in bits and pieces.

I know I have to own an M3 someday. Its all I have been dreaming about from the moment I saw my first E30 M3.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
