Whether you consider this battle a pedigreed recasting of the Camaro-Mustang rivalry or a superficial spat to be had between handsomely paid professionals, one thing's certain: Neither coupe would have gotten this much engine if the other didn't exist.

Very likely, they wouldn't stop or handle as well, either. Nor would they each offer an active steering system as an option. At heart, the 2007 BMW 335i and 2008 Infiniti G37 are chasing the same driver.

And by most standards, the Infiniti G37 is an impressive car and a lot of fun. But it isn't as quick as the BMW 335i, nor does it engage its driver with equal commitment.

Due to its higher price and shorter features list, the 3 Series won this test by only 2.3 points. But contained within those points are all the details that make it a more intimate and involving driving partner.

"Nearly every aspect of our drive feels more natural in the 335i," one of our editors recorded in the notebook for this comparison. "I'm not sure what the price difference is, but the BMW feels $15,000 better."

Now that's a proper sport coupe test which focuses on driving not price crap! btw why a top of the line 3 series coupe comes without i drive looks weired and cheap without it!

So the 3er is better in real life.

But what about track tests a la Sport Auto ?!

Hopefully SA will test the G37 when it comes to Europe.

The 335i engine is indeed under rated. Makes me belive the 135i will have a detuned version will actually pumps the claimed 306 hp.

to earn cash? :D same case with 1-series, its only standard from 5-serie and up.

Well to me this is scary. This means that the japanese are not that far from the perfect & cheaper alternative to German cars. Not interms of styling of course

heard of EVO and Impreza`? :) Check out EVO for instance, the laptimes for those are often on same level as porsche :) Japanese has always done great performance cars, NSX, Skyline , Supra are other fine cars from japan :)

From the article...

"What's more, the G37's V6 is strained at high engine speeds, warbling uncertainly on its way to the fuel cut-off as if it would prefer you weren't in such a damned hurry."

 Am I the only person that found that frikkin hilarious???

The G is a very competent car, but......... the 3 is better. I drove both some test thing a while ago. Bank Atlantic center in Broward county FL, not sure if any1 else from here was there?? Anyways, the G has a MAJOR understeer problem. It doesn't listen to the driver at the limit. Although the way we were driving the cars would never be considered everyday real world driving, it shows where your money goes in a bmw. If an emergency situation ever presented itself and I had to do an emergency maneuver I would think my chances of escaping without harm are better in the bm. If the G drove as good, it would need as many bells and whistles as purchase justification. My $.02 I cannot wait for the GTR however, I think that will be amazing. :usa7uh:

Yeah, but they're most likely stripped a la CSL.

Maybe its just me i might be to biased.. But the 335i looks awesome in those pictures compared to the G37 :D

The interior reminds me of the e60 5 series... it just needs a similar update.. The 5 series went from cheap and uninspiring to best in class for me.. Lets hope the 3 series has this for the future :usa7uh:

I agree. It's funny how the facelift revealed what was wrong with the 5er's interior all along. It wasn't the lines, it was the stingy application of materials. All BMW had to do was loosen up a bit and - presto - things look fantastic.

Well... leave it to those jerks in Munich to cook up a great midlife facelift with features that could and should have been there from the get-go.

The X5 on the other hand... well - they actually launched with all guns blazing. I'm almost surprised.

100% agree... The X5 has the best BMW interior at the moment and personally one of the best availible... its still classic BMW aswell

I think the 3 series needs less black... I dont like the shade of black BMW uses and I think they need to balance it out more...

The 3er is definitely a better car and way better looking too. But honestly, if you're low on cash there is no better car than the G37. You have to give some credit to Nissan/Infiniti for making such a nice car.

BMW dont need to sell the cars cheaper, they sell anyway. Im not sure it would be a good thing if Infiniti had the same pricetag as 335i for Infiniti sales.

There is one thing I like about G37 is that LSD is standard. But spaceinterior, comfort, speed and design seem to be advantage for 335i. Another advantage for 335i is Turbo and it's easy to boost up the power.

For clearification...I never said that the 335 needs to be cheaper. :D

I do agree with the rest of your statement. But as it stands...if you can't afford the best (335) then get the closest competition, which is G37.
