Official Thread Infiniti Q50 Sedan (Replacement for the G37)

Yes, I do know the history. But I meant that Nissan/Infiniti never used the "Q" letter alone? Or have they. Fill me in on this, if it isnt corrent. Cause I meant, there is a difference on Q5 and QX5, more then Q5 and Q50.

But on the other hand, we have both the S60 (Volvo) and the S6 (Audi) so I guess its all about getting used to things.
I wonder how they name the new G with 4cyl engine and V6 engine Do they still call it Q50? Is it the only way to distinguish between the 4 cyl and the V6 by looking at the exhaust pipe ? ( 4cyl is one pipe and V6 is dual pipes)

I can't believe this is sitting on the NEXT GEN C-Class chassis? What the hell? So what's so special about M-B's anymore then? They give entire chassis' to outside companies? I thought they said core models wouldn't get their chassis' shared, only the little economical models.

You can see the car benefit from M-B's next gen proportions, etc. This will probably go down as a similar story to the Jeep GC/ML where the cheaper version of the same chassis is so good that it starts to make the higher version pointless. IMO M-B will just give people less reason to spend the extra bucks on them when you can get the same bones under a cheaper car. They seriously have such bad ideas when it comes to working with other companies.

At least BMW treat their chassis' as sacred enough to not give CORE chassis to competing brands. I'm fine with my F01/F10 chassis being used on the Ghost, I wouldn't be happy if it was used on an Acura.

VW and Audi seems to be doing just fine. And what is your definition of "core chassis"?

A car like a C-Class, E-Cass, S-Class. One of the models that defines M-B.

There's absolutely no redeeming quality for M-B giving their upcoming chassis' to Infiniti, driving an M-B is literally not special anymore.

VW and Audi belong to the same family, are developed from the ground up with each other in mind in most cases, etc. M-B and Nissan are completely different companies.

There hasn't been anything special about driving a Mercedes in years, in general. It depends on which Mercedes you drove. Just saying you have a Mercedes only resonates as a rich person to those who have no clue now. People in the know (the group I would care about what they think, if I had to care) know that a C-Class isn't as special as a S600 or SL63 AMG or G550 or CL550. I mean really, what is or used to be special about a C-Class, beyond the AMG models? They're not exclusive and only 2nd or 3rd in the class when compared. The 190E was different because it drove like a little 560SEL. The C350 drives nothing like the S550 now. One is luxury and then some sport and the other is trying really hard to be a sport sedan first. Sure it shares some traits with the rest of the lineup, but the exclusiveness at Mercedes is in the AMG, Black Series, V12 models and cars like the SL or CL, even then only to a degree.

Does BMW not give their cars for Brilliance to use in China?

Do they give their 5/7 Series chassis'? Either way, whatever "Brilliance" is, I'm assuming it's not a direct competitor.

One of M-B's hallmarks was their chassis construction. Now that's wayward since you can get an M-B chassis under an Infiniti.... or Jeep.... Or Dodge.... or Chrysler. Ridiculous.

M-B just helped Infiniti's chassis proportions immensely as we can already tell as well, which shoots them in the foot since M-B's proportions will be EXACTLY the same, therefore making M-B's own proportions "regular", unspecial, etc.

Not really. AFAIK, it is a join venture to assemble and sell BMW cars in China. So not same as giving your chassis away to someone as MB is supposedly doing. But having said that, I don't see anything so wrong with it either - I doubt many people even realize what a chassis is, let alone if it is shared or not.

I agree with every single word.

BTW, the 190E is indeed a very special car, because the level of true engineering that this model enjoyed was never ever repeated again in any production car.

I always imagined that when the car was under development, the engineers had locked all marketing guys, all financial dept guys and all designers in the basement and they kept them locked until they were done. And when they released them, they threatend them, so that they wouldn't change even the smallest detail. And they didn't.

You're one sick freak buddy!! :D

I guess we gotta wait another week to see this car and all the rest. The press stuff should be out now!!!!!

Not as whacky as the new Lexus ut still out there. BTW did the Japanese pass a law requiring all cars should have a hourglass shaped grill?

Looks like a Lexus GS with some tweaks.

On a Mercedes chassis.

Oh the shame.

Q50 2.0T
Q50 3.0T
Q50 TDI
Thanks Wolfgang.
Here is what I think about the engines line up.
Q50 2.0T : 1.8l Turbo with output around 221hp vs 201hp (W204).
Q50 CDI : 2.2l Turbo with output around 210hp vs 190hp ( for the current GLK )
Q50 3.0T : 3l V6 Turbo with output around 330hp vs the current 3.7l 328hp from Nissan.
I'm not sure if they would use the new MB 3.0T . They might keep using the current Nissan's 3.7l V6.
By the way, the picture that Sunny posted looks good. Let's hope the interior will be a stunning.
