Hot on the heels of the recent revelation that Infiniti is working on a duo of new G-based vehicles slated to debut at this year's Pebble Beach extravaganza, we've come across a trademark filing by Nissan North America for "IPL." What's IPL you ask? Infiniti Performance Line, a new catalog of in-house developed upgrades which – according to the filing – will include everything from air filters to cat-back exhaust systems, and – more intriguingly – "automotive engine parts, namely turbochargers and superchargers."

The approach is likely to be similar to how NISMO develops and markets parts for Nissan or, more accurately, Lexus' launch of its F-Sport performance line.

This new line of performance parts will likely be unveiled this August in Pebble Beach and be fitted to the G37 coupe. How extensive the modifications are remains to be seen, but as previously reported, one of the models set to debut will be "performance oriented," and if forced induction is part of the package, we're anxiously awaiting our rendezvous with the modded coupe this summer

Now this will definitely be something to look forward to. That G37 Coupe is completely mouth-watering in standard form, can't imagine what performance-line visual upgrade they have planned. I just hope they don't rice it out. Keep it classy!

They formed a partnership with Mercedes; Mercedes will supply diesel engines for Infiniti, so maybe the AMG boffins could work wonders with the G37 and M56.

I think Nismo is a bit too 'racerboy' in name and reputation.

So this IP Line, it sounds like it is not a dedicated performance branch ala BMW->M, MB->AMG, Lexus->F, Audi->RS ..but at the same time it won't just be cosmetic and minor improvements such as the M Sports Package, etc...but rather something in between.

Sounds very promising! I'm really liking the way the Infiniti brand is shaping up. Could be a definite alternative to a BMW for those value-conscious buyers who look past the brand name.

Oh boy here we go. I hope they get this right. What Japanese luxury brands don't seem to get is that most luxury car buyers don't buy this over the counter crap for their cars. They want it from the factory. Lexus is now giving away their F Sport parts. Infinitis and Lexuses aren't Nissans and Toyotas, or thats what they've put out through marketing so why then turn around and offer over the counter spoilers, body kits and suspension add ons when very few if any luxury car buyers are going to buy them?

Lexus has been wasting time with this for years and they still don't get it. They went from "L-Tuned" to "F-Sport" and it still ain't working. Hopefully Infiniti gets it right.

You need a real performance brand and some cars to back it up, establish the name and then offer the over the counter stuff, like the others do.

F-sport doesn't mean squat to anyone. IPL? Doomed from the start with such a lame, unimaginative name.
