FROM FORD SOUTH-AFRICA - The all new Ford Ranger & Ranger Wildtrack

HAHAHA! You can build yourself a BMW 7er pickup from these optional extra's!

A new standard in drive technology

The technology in the All-New Ranger is already being hailed as setting a new benchmark in its class. Leading the way is its Electronic Stability Program (ESP)*. It gives you greater control and safety, on-road and off, with features like Trailer Sway Control, Hill Launch Assist, Hill Descent Control and Adaptive Load Traction Control. It’s technology you want on your side, whether you’re carrying a heavy load or family and friends.

Essentially smart thinking

There are life’s essentials. Then there are the things you just have to have. Like the dual zone climate control in new Ranger that lets you and whoever’s in the passenger front seat set your ideal temperature. Or the way your centre console connects to the climate control unit to become a mini cooler* when you want to keep your lunch fresh or drinks cool. Then there’s power adjustable seats, an on-board computer, SatNav, cruise control and audio controls on the steering wheel.

Just what you needVoice control and more

Talk is not only cheap, it’s also safer in new Ranger with voice control and Bluetooth® #. Make business calls, keep in touch with family, choose your favorite music (work that iPod!), even adjust the air conditioning, without taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. to make your day easier.

Looking out for you and yours

Reverse with confidence. All-New Ranger gives you the options of Rear Park Assist sensors* to see what, or who is behind you.
Wet roads also get your full attention with rain sensing wipers that do the thinking for you, automatically turning on and off and adjusting to the changing weather conditions.

That's a lekker bakkie!

Power torques

Our ‘no compromise’ approach is evident in the All-New Ranger's new engine options.

Each of our 2.2-litre TDCi diesel engines are tuned to match local conditions for both power and fuel efficiency, delivering 88kW and 285Nm (LP) and 110kW, 375Nm (HP).

There’s also our highly responsive and efficient new 3.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi I5 diesel engine, with a substantial 470 Nm of torque and a power output of 147 kW (200 PS).

Our 2.5-litre Ford Duratec petrol engine delivers more power than before (122kW, 226Nm) and can be configured for different fuel options.
Not your typical truck

Sure it’s a truck. But that doesn’t mean Ranger has to drive like one. Quiet and smooth, the ride is enhanced by the barely noticeable gear change of the six-speed sequential shift automatic transmission or 6-speed manual transmission. This ease continues with electronic shift-on-the-fly. Just a quick turn of the control is all it takes to change between 2WD and 4WD.

What a difference a diff makes

Limited slip differential* and the choice of an electronic rear locking differential help ensure greater traction control in any terrain or conditions. And with the all-new suspension and longer wheelbase, the on and off-road handling is anything but typical for a truck.

Super Cab has suicide doors - Cool!

FORD TO PUMP $500M INTO RANGER PICKUP PLANT IN SOUTH-AFRICA
:t-cheers:
Although Ford will close the doors on its oldest assembly plant later this year when it ends Ranger production in Minnesota, the automaker isn’t giving up on small pickups for the rest of the globe.

Ford CFO Lewis Booth today announced that Ford will invest $500 million into its Pretoria, South Africa, assembly plant to build the global market version of the Ranger. Ford will export the new pickup to nearly 150 countries across the globe – but not the United States or Canada.

The automaker says that it will build about 110,000 Rangers annually in Pretoria in part by canceling other low volume models and in part by the new investment that helps streamline operations.

Based on a platform shared with a global-market Mazda B-Series pickup, the international Ranger will also be built at an AutoAlliance plant in Thailand.

Meanwhile, Ford is planning to cease production of the North American Ranger on December 22. It’s unclear if production for the second half of 2011 will be 2012-model Rangers or if the automaker will simply extend the 2011 model year. When Ranger production closes, it will mark the end of the line for the oldest Ford assembly plant still in operation; the Twin Cities Assembly Plant first opened its doors in 1924 to build Model Ts.

Ja, that new Ranger is a very handsome bakkie, it's the one I'd have, and I never thought I'd say that becuase if you live on the westrand and you drive a Ford bakkie it could def create a certain image LOL.

LOL. Here in the FS we need to drive Bakkie's because of the bad roads, yet I have not learnt my lesson and the wife hit a pothole only to replace an expensive Run-on-Flat tyre.
Hindsight is that if I buy a pickup it will be the new Ranger without a doubt. It's 'cool', practical and the options list is in the German premium car league;)

2012 Toyota Hilux facelift unveiled

Revised styling, added performance

Toyota has officially unveiled the 2012 Hilux facelift.

Featuring a refined appearance, the model adopts a new front fascia, a revised grille and restyled headlights. Interior changes are limited, but include a new instrument cluster, revised trim and an updated 6.1-inch touchscreen display.

The 3.0 D-4D carries over - with a new diesel particulate filter - but the big news is an upgraded 2.5-liter D-4D with 144 PS (106 kW / 142 PS) and 343 Nm (253 lb-ft) of torque. Despite boasting an additional 24 PS (18 kW / 24 hp), the engine has a reduced fuel consumption of 7.3 L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 193 g/km.

In the past especially,it was an absolute necessity to take the Bakkie to SAC and others. IMO it still applies to Toyota's current Diesel lineup*.
New(er) diesel tech will find it's way into Japanese pickups sooner that later i.e. Ford's new ranger and the Amarok who already has new tech Twin Turbo, common rail, multi valve units. In the end tuning on diesel bakkies will become a thing of the past.

Toyota needs a new engine range ASAP to stay competitive going forward, the D-4D is the same old under powered unit used in the previous KZ-TE, that was a bit tuned up etc.

Not that things are getting better for the Hilux FL:
