The D90 is also notable for being the first DSLR to offer video recording, with the ability to record HD 720p videos, with mono sound, at 24 frames per second (for up to 5 minutes or 20 minutes for smaller videos).

Nikon D90 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've been looking for a new camera and I was eyeing the D80. Scratch that, the D90 just came along. Cheapest price I could find in Germany for the body alone was € 788.99 (about $ 1100.99). Sounds like a good deal considering a new D60 with 18-55mm lens costs a bit over € 700. Besides, I already have two lenses I can use with the D90 if I manage to get it (checks his bank account), especially the 18-200mm VR.

But that video function is what makes me crave it! Santa Claus better visit me this Christmas! :D

Haha, you also have Christmass shoping fever!:) I just bought myself a wide angle Sigma 10-20 mm, it's awesome..But listen Cristian, it's better to buy good glass than replace camera bodies. I would be satisfied with D40 if it works fine and save the money for the lenses. But that's just me.
I had friend's Nikon D80 in hands and it really feels solid, like a tank, nothing like my Canon.

Well, I figured the D90 is what I need. It's a big upgrade over the D40 and the extra ISO values I'll get mean that I can take clearer pictures on a day with terrible lighting or when my shutter speed is too high etc.

And that video function is very tempting. I'm sure I can put that to good use. Filming some cool cars from Munich, girls....eh...um...I didn't say that! :D

I guess you haven't seen this?
Reverie is now back online Vincent Laforet’s Blog

I still don't get why Nikon boast as much as they do. The 5D Mk2 is much more powerful and was introduced earlier.

D90 - 720p filming, 12.3mp photography
5D Mk2 - 1080 filming, 21.1mp photography

Priorities Wimmer, priorities;) With Canon you can.

Thanks for the info, but no offense - I ain't much of a Canon guy. One of my friends from school just bought a Canon Eos 40D and he already hates it. :D

After using an 1D, I'm not that fond of it either, if you get what I mean:D

I believe I do. It feels light, plasticky and cheap and not as user-friendly as a Nikon.

Am I right? :D

Nope, nothing compares to the 1D. And I hate Nikon controls and ergonomics. Canon is so much more userfriendly in my opinion.

:t-cheers:

I have a D200, but my girlfriend's dad has 2-3 canons so I use them often, and just can't stand the Canon's controls... I love my D200, feels much more solid than the Canons. His latest is the 40D and it is closer to my D200, but not the same. I hate the rotary wheel on the back of the Canons.

For my small camera though, I have a Canon and love it, and POwershot S80... I think Canon makes better portable cameras, and I also have a Canon camcorder.

I have a Nikon D50 now and I'm looking to upgrade, but wherever I go (read: however much beating my bank account can take), it'll be a Nikon. My dad being a former pro photographer, he swore by Nikons and I grew up with them. I just don't like the way a Canon feels.

I really like the D90, but I don't think there is anyway I can afford it.

I feel your pain, brother. :eusa_pray

The Nikon D40 and D40x (I have the D40) were the successors to the D50 I believe. The D60 is the newest of the bunch. I had the opportunity to try it from a classmate and I just don't like the way Nikon reworked it. It looks like a D40 / D40x but it feels so different in terms of usage. Anyway the D40 and D40x are still awesome cameras and should be available for cheap prices by now.

I thought the D80 was much better. Better yet, I am told by the experts that the D40/D40x/D80 and now the D90 use the same metering system, which is considered to be the most efficient within the whole Nikon range according to them. That means if I go for a D80 / D90 I'll get into the hang of car hunting and shooting more easily avoiding a complex transition stage.

Man, I want a D90!!!!! :crying6cc

I played with a D60 yesterday and like many other Nikons I was really bothered that there is no quick way of changing ISO setting, and focus points. Especially as the latter is something I like to change every other second.

Very nice graphics on the screen for settings though:usa7uh:

I have a Nikon too... A P50, not D50 though :D. Is it a good one? There's only one letter difference after all! :D
(I'm not at all a Photo Fanatic, that's why...)

Must be a digital camera or some sort. I've been thinking of getting myself one because of the many parties I will be attending in the future. It's going to be a pain dragging a DSLR with me all the time. :D

I have found changing the focusing points on my D200 to be very easy and efficient... MUCH easier than on a Canon.

I guess I haven't played elaborately enough with a D200 then. I can't find a way of changing the settings without having to go into the menu.

No need to go to a menu. You just rotate the switch in the back to setting that allows you to choose your focusing point instead of Auto, or center etc. and then you use the pad in the back and press in which direction you want your focusing point. It can all be done with your eye in the viewfinder.

So apparently I'm not the only one to think the Canons feel too plastic? I mean I love my XTi/400D and I have no complaints about it's performance, but when I used a friend's Olympus E-500, I liked the sturdy metallic feeling and sound that it had to it.

And what do Pentax cameras feel like?

Just saw a bunch of D90s for sale at Costco for $1300.
Camera, lens, and case. Not sure what else.
