With the introduction of the new V8 powered RWD Genesis sedan, Hyundai will finally have a car that could rival the low-cost but powerful saloons that seem to remain the domain of the US carmakers. To give its new ‘Tau’ V8 a fighting chance, Hyundai is rumored to be setting the 4.6L engine’s output at 380hp (283kW).

According to a recent post on the HyundaiExchange forums, Hyundai’s R&D Chief Hyun-Soon Lee revealed to company officials that the V8 engine would output the 380hp figure in its new RWD sedan, which is due for release towards the end of the year.

In addition to the new V8, Hyundai will eventually offer a new diesel mill as well as a possible hydrogen fuel-cell powerplant. Researchers at Hyundai are currently developing the new powertrains, however, the carmaker’s boss Dong Jin Kim recently revealed that non-petrol models won’t be exported to key markets such as the US until 2010 at the earliest.

:t-cheers:

I applaud Hyundai for this, but...

Lexus GS anyone? :eek2:

I'm not one of those guys who screams "COPIED!" at the slightest similar design cue, but this!? 3/4 of the side profile scream Lexus GS to me. :t-hands:

I'll be surprised if it has that much power, but then again Hyundai's mission is to beat Toyota at every turn so anything can happen. If they do offer 380hp for a rumored 35K there is going to be some serious panic in the entry-level luxury ranks over at Acua and Lexus. I doubt if Infiniti has anyting to worry about though I can't see this car matching the G35 on the road.

It is about time to give Lexus a taste of its own medicene.

If buyers know their stuff. Most buyers don't seem to.

They compare a BMW 5er to a Lexus GS and then decide to go for the Lexus because it is softer. They think of the BMW 5er as a luxury car when every enthusiast knows the BMW 5er is one of the sportiest cars in its class with more emphasis on sport than luxury or comfort. Not saying it's uncomfortable but you get the point. :usa7uh:

Good point, but ah ha....the 5-Series outsells the GS here by a wide margin. :D

To add to what Christian said, it looks like Audi and Hyundai have the same designers. Taillights are very similar, but both products are coming out too close to each other for it to be copying.

In my opinion Genesis looks like Lexus GS which looks like BMW 5 series (main part of the car at least). So Huyndai is copying Lexus, who is copying BMW.:D

Entry ticket for Hyundai, to luxury-ring, but the battle won't have sensational endings :D...!

I never mentioned Audi. :D

Lexus has shamelessly copied the Hoffmeister kink from BMW. I am surprised BMW hasn't sued them yet. :D
