HWA HWA EVO and EVO R (Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II by HWA)

Motorsport legends behind the CLK-GTR and DTM titles. Now crafting ultra-exclusive restomods like the HWA EVO. Official: HWA and HWA EVO.
But it offers good vibes.

No it didn't. It was too slow. Absolutely no point in even competing there, since there was no competition. They just did it to sell those street legal cars (which have all been sold already AFAIK)

HWA did developed engine for Zonda and Huayra R so I assume the engine will be even crazier than that one.
Here is the link on some rumors and info
HWA’s 190 Evo Was Just The Start, Now It’s Ready To Create A Hypercar

HWA assembled the Apollo Intensa Emozione and Apollo Project EVO.

Love that factory tour of HWA. Super cool that the roll cage is imbedded inside the pillars and roof. You don't see it!

Nuts how many super and hyper cars use external carbon fibre bits. Would make me nervous to drive a car like that. A rear end knock would require huge pieces of manually created CF body parts to be replaced.

There are talented people who can repair and patch carbon fibre to the point where it's difficult to sport.

Agreed.. it seems we have to wait for second project with V8 (will still be based on a Mercedes), or the third project (a "bespoke" V12 hypercar) that @Jonathan19 mentioned before, to get fast, competitive vehicle

This car was so slow in the N24... jesus

Again, it's not slow - it's just not a GT3 car.

Of the plethora of classes at the N24, there are many the HWA EVO R is simply not eligible for...

SP9 : Not eligible because not a homologated GT3 car
AT1 : Not eligible because not alternative fuel
Cup 2 : Not eligible because not a Porsche 992 Cup car
AT2 : Not eligible because not alternative fuel
SP-PRO : Not eligible because production based engine
SP7 : Not eligible because engine too small
TCR : Not eligible because not a homologated TCR car
SP10 : Not eligible because not a homologated GT4 car
Cup3 : Not eligible because not a Porsche 718 GT4 Clubsport
SP4T : Not eligible because engine too big
SP3T : Not eligible because engine too big
M240i Racing Cup : Not eligible because it's not a BMW M240i Racing
SP2T : Not eligible because engine too big
BMW M2 Racing: Not eligible because it's not a BMW M2 Racing
V6 : Not eligible because engine too big
VT2 Front : Not eligible because engine too big and not FWD
VT2 Rear : Not eligible because engine too big
BMW 325i Challenge : Not eligible because it's not an E90 325i
SP3 : Not eligible because Turbo and because the engine is too big
SP4 : Not eligible because Turbo and because the engine is too big

That leaves:
SPX : Eligible
SP8T : Probably eligible, would have to be de-tuned to meet power to weight ratio
V5 : Might have been eligible, depending on 'production' status and exact capacity (<3000cc) - also not sure if it's regulated to Porsche only.

The EVO R clocked best lap times of 8:41 to 8:45 depending on driver. The only cars that were faster were GT3 cars, the GT3 based but not homologated M3 Touring 24h, the partially-homologated-but-not-quite-GT3 KTM GTX, the E20 fuelled GT3 cars, and the 992 "GT3"-but-not GT3 Cup cars.

Of the categories the cars were eligible for, SP8T saw only the Mclaren Artura Trophy Evo, the best lap of which was ~16 seconds slower than the EVO R's, and they completed considerably fewer laps, so HWA would have had a 1-2-3 in that class. In V5 the fastest lap was over a minute slower than the EVO R's, and again, they complete a number less laps than the HWA's, so that would also have been a 1-2-3.

In the end, I suspect it had to compete in SP-X because it's a non-homologated race car not built to any specific rule set, but built to race.

With all that in mind SPX is the pretty much the only class were there's no expectation of similar performance between cars, that's not what it's for - it's there as a catch all class for things that can't race anywhere else. It's unfortunate for HWA that BMW entered what was for all intents and purposes a GT3 car into the class - generally, the close-to-GT3 spec cars in SPX are not as well developed and don't do quite so well (the SCG's come to mind).

tl;dr
The HWAs were faster than GT4, all the production classes, most of the Cup classes and would have locked out the podium if they'd have been entered in any suitable class.

HWA simply didn't develop it as a GT3 car - I don't know why people are finding this so hard to get their head around.

Bernd Schneider mentioned a new Mercedes AMG SP-X car for 2027 Nürburgring 24h.

We know the Tracksport will compete as a GT3 car.

Do we, actually?

The AMG GT GT3 is eligible for years yet, putting the new car into SP-X for its first year of in race development would be a great way of virtually guaranteeing it a winning pace. BMW have won with an SPX car before, and the 911 RSR dodged GT3 rules on it's way to winning with the RSR in SP7. If they're happy to throw the money at it, there's nothing that says GT3 has to be the best option.

Yes the Customers were already informed that they’re getting the cars until march 27.

In the German newspaper Motorsport aktuell the information was published a few months ago.

26 was the last 24h Nürburgring race in which the old GT will be used from the official teams.

Customer racing teams, or private individuals?

March 27th means it misses the start of the IMSA and IGTC seasons... No Daytona, Sebring or Bathurst at least, not to mention other smaller series...

.. that's idiotic.

Customer Racing Teams.

I was surprised as well for the same reasons.

Daytona Bathurst or Sebring would be perfect races for the shakedown of that car.

But to be able to start there, the teams need the cars until end 26 I guess.

Because the Tracksport is a completely different animal.

Sorry @Swissbob I just realised you meant March 2027, not March 27th... by brain's not working correctly after no sleep at the weekend yet.

Still, it makes far more sense to me for most teams to use the AMG GT3 for another year while the factory runs some development races.

🍻I agree (y)

Personally I’d try to do the shakedown at the Nürburgring race trying to sandbag the BOP and with 3 cars ( because cars can always crash at Nurburgring )
