F1 Hamilton sets his sights on the title

Formula 1 news, races, teams, drivers, technology, strategy, and discussion.
Am I the only one who get the impression that these old stars are trying to earn an extra dollar just by opening their mouths?

You cynical man, Zonda! And I thought I was the only one.

I think these old "stars" are trying to make up for the fact they earned very little during their racing careers. Perhaps they think kissing some new guy's arse will help them get endorsements.

I honestly don't know if Moss, Stewart or even Lauda and Mansell know about F1 today. It changed to the point that it kept the F1 name and a few other things but that's it.

Yep I'd like to know what would have Hamy done in the crapy Toleman/Jordan/Minardi of Senna/Schumacher/Alonso.

They probably all think their record as ex-F1 champs gives them more credibility to the masses. Oh so sorry. I forgot that Moss is the "Greatest Driver to Never Win a World Championship".

If you asked a few of the ex-F1 pilots what Hamilton would do in a Toleman/Jordan/Minardi, they would likely tell you: Win rain-swept Monaco with a Toleman/ Win at Spa with a Jordan/ Win the WDC with a Minardi! :t-banghea

You're not the only one. :D
But it could be more. They could say, I'm still here, I know better and so on ...
Old people have a tendency to want to prove they're not worthless.
Ofcourse with a nice endorsement it's a multiple gain.

Moss is a legend and was a terrific endurance/sport car racer, but ... as a Formula 1 driver he always had a complex of inferiority to Fangio and made other mistakes.
And even if he equaled or beat his opponents on victories he always lost on points.
The worst part about him is the "in my days" speeches, witch is like saying "in another universe".

I mean, does he really expects drivers to drift in Turn 8 at the Turkey GP track at speeds of 300 Km/h while subjected to 4.5 to 6Gs ?!

Well that would make Hamilton into Senna, Schumacher, Alonso, Superman and Jesus Christ all packed into one.

What some don't understand about McLaren is that with Alonso they got a replacement for both Raikkonen and Wurz.
McLaren had a bad season also because with the loss Wurz there was only De la Rosa left and he was no Wurz and could not work miracles in testing and developing the car, while Kimi and Montoya were almost clueless.

So would the McMercs have been so competitive and could Hamilton achieved
such results ?!

It will be interesting to see if Hamy will be a Mansell fast driver type or a package a la Schumacher/Alonso who fight for the WDC not just during the Sunday races.
