386kW Alfa-Romeo Giulia GT (105) Bertone electric restomod by Totem Automobili of Italy. Electrifying one of the cars that "electrified ME" as a youth and young adult.
Rant 1: I'm an advocate for electric cars, but why would you suppress the lightweight handling and characterful engine of one of the most beautiful Alfa? Is like putting a quartz mechanism on a fine, old mechanical watch. When ICE get banned from streets, these beauties should be enjoyed on tracks, special parades or meetings.
Rant 2: I've an ambiguous position with restomods. While some of the results are spectacular, I can't see the point of ruining an already staggering 964 to make it look like a tuned 70's 911. Or an E Type, a Giulia GTA or a Delta Integrale.
Not having such a problem with mundane cars like an Escort or a regular Delta getting the beef up treatment.
Rant 3: The retro inspired BEV releases (Honda e, Fiat newest 500, Renault 5 bev concept) along these restomods prove you can make highly desirable cars for current times, without having to resort to huge grills (BMW, Audi), blob shapes with amorphous lights (Mercs, Ford) or coke meets redbull meets rave party line surfacing (Hyundai, Toyota, Lexus et all) I hope a new era of purer designs come as a byproduct of BEVs.
Rant 4: I can't stop admiring Giugiaro: The guy starting at Bertone did these curvy Giulia/105 (and BMW 3002 CS, couple Iso Rivolta), went to hint the "wedge" at Ghia with Ghibli and Mangusta, and finally went full wedge and sharp, straight lines at his own Italdesign, encompassing from BMW M1 to VW Golf and Fiat Panda. A genius not only in aesthetics but in car packaging!
