Armchair racers all around the globe, this is the moment you have all been waiting for; Gran Turismo 6 will be released on November 28, 2013.

The date suggests a formal announcement is likely to be made during June’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), though Sony may have a surprise or two up its sleeve.

The release date was leaked by Italian electronics retailer Multiplayer.com, which has since pulled down the page containing information on the game, though not before CNET could jot it all down.
Along with the date, which may only reflect the European launch, the page also included this cover art, which, if real, confirms that Gran Turismo 6 has been designed for Sony’s existing PlayStation 3 console and not the next-generation PlayStation 4 due out at the end of this year.
Not much else is known about the game, though we know that a pair of unique muscle cars will be among the lineup of cars offered.

The cars, a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 40 custom as well as a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, were handpicked for a virtual appearance in the latest installment at previous SEMA shows by the game's creator, Kazunori Yamauchi.

The original Gran Turismo was first launched in 1997 and has since sold more than 65 million copies of its various versions. The game is recognized for its realistic graphics and physics and the upcoming sixth installment should be the best version yet.

I think this will be on launched with the PS4 too, it won't make sense to release one of the most popular and best selling game on an old platform, especially when Kazunori have said the PS3 is limiting the things he wants to do.

Don't worry, if it is anything like the last one, PS5 will be out by the time they release it.

Don't know about you guys, but I liked Forza 4 more than the Gran Turismo 5. Cars sounding far more 'accurate', better choice of cars (and who cares about 4214124141 versions of Mazda MX-5 GT5 has) and Porsche DLC for The Forza 4 made me like it more.

Gran Turismo 6 Confirmed For PS3, Coming This Holiday Season

Sony is hosting today a special event at the Silverstone circuit to mark the 15th anniversary of its Gran Turismo racing sim, where it has just announced that the sixth installment of the series, Gran Turismo 6, will be launched for the PlayStation 3 this holiday season.
It was widely known that the new game would be available before the year was out, due to the inadvertent posting of a November 28 release date by an Italian electronics retailer earlier this month.
However, now the game’s release has been made official.
The Silverstone circuit will be one of seven new locations added to the series, bringing the total to 33. There will also be 71 different layouts available, 19 of which are new.
There will be plenty of downloadable content available, too, and new connectivity features that will allow players to participate in social and community groups using smartphones and other mobile devices.
The big news is the availability of 1,200 different cars at the game’s launch, including historic models, concepts and race cars, in addition to the regular production models.
"It's amazing to think that 15 years have passed since the first launch of Gran Turismo," the game’s creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, said in a statement. "Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream.
If you’re wondering why Sony chose to launch the game on its PlayStation 3 when a PlayStation 4 is just around the corner, Yamauchi explained that the current console already has a very loyal community.

What an odd strategy, I thought GT5 has already reached the limit of the PS3 and launching GT6 on PS4 seems like a logical choice, as it will help Sony to move a few more PS4, but I guess not.

Baffled too by this choice and surprised to see it developped this fast (relatively) given the time it took them to produce GT5, anyway what can this really offer more than GT5 ? More cars, slightly better graphics ? I hope at the real enhacement will be be a seriously improved gameplay that will set the score with forza.

Don't think the graphics can be improved, perhaps they might have done something about the rendering the shadows while the cars are on the moves. Seems like we get more tracks, improved physics engine. Those who has bought those download packages must have been pissed off now that they know GT6 is released much sooner than expected.

Press release

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. today announced Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™), the latest version of PlayStation®’s best-selling franchise, will be released in Holiday, 2013. The news was revealed today by legendary Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at an event held to celebrate 15 years of the 70-million-selling series.

GT6 for PlayStation®3 will bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface. A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content. Meanwhile, the game is also set for expanded connectivity with other devices such as smart phones and tablets and increased social and community functions.
All of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo®5, which has sold over 10 million copies since launching in 2010, will be retained in GT6. But notable new additions to the already impressive line-up of historic cars, road cars and the latest race cars, brings the total car list to 1,200 at launch, with new cars set to be continually added online. Several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels will be available for almost all cars, and players can personalize their own custom cars in game to the greatest ever level possible.
The UK’s famous Silverstone Circuit will be just one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them brand new. There will also be regular additions of new tracks set to be made available online. The improved course maker function will provide gorgeous scenery spanning several tens of square kilometers including the magnificent backdrop of Andalucía.

The theme of Gran Turismo’s innovative collaborations with partner companies will increase with the inception of GT6. A number of exciting new projects that blur the line between the virtual and real will be announced in the run up to the game’s launch. Not least of these is GT Academy, a collaboration with Nissan to unearth real racing driver talent that first ran in 2008. It was announced during the event that the competition returns for its biggest ever year in 2013, with the entry mechanic set to take place on an exclusive GT6 demo in July.
Other notable partnerships in the development of GT6 have been with tire manufacturer Yokohama Rubber and suspension company KW Automotive. Both companies are active in the commercial car industry and in racing, and they have acted as technical development partners for the game’s new physics engine, for its tire and suspension kinematic modeling, creating an even more realistic experience for GT fans.
“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” explained Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments. I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will be only the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”
The celebration of 15 years of Gran Turismo event at Silverstone included a demo of GT6 featuring the famous circuit. Guests were able to play the game in the familiar circular Gran Turismo race pods before having a chance to take to the real track in cars provided by Audi, Ford, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Toyota.
Further news about Gran Turismo 6 will be revealed at the forthcoming E3 and Gamescom events.

This.

I know that the GT series are all about being a driving simulator but GT5 was an underwhelming experience as far as gameplay is concerned. The biggest complaint would have to be the mandatory endurance races. GT needs to drop the whole "the more you play, the longer the races" strategy.

My biggest complain is the rather dumb AI opponents, they are fast because they often have more powerful cars, not because they are actually good drivers. I would like to play online and vs other players however the multi player interface is a complete mess, I stopped bothering with it a long time ago. Now I only drive on the seasonal time trails, or in game time trails.

Gran Turismo 6 Will Include Three New AMG Models

Legendary Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi announced this week that Gran Turismo 6 will be released Holiday 2013. The news was revealed at an event held at Silverstone in England celebrating 15 years of the 70-million-selling series, Gran Turismo.

Gran Turismo 6 for PlayStation 3 will receive several enhancements, improvements and additions in order to give players new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator. There will be new tracks and more importantly, cars, including three new Mercedes AMG models; the SLS AMG GT3 producing over 367 kW (more than 500 hp), the E63 AMG producing 410 kW (557 hp) and the A45 AMG producing 265 kW (360 hp). In addition to the three new vehicles, no fewer than 21 further vehicles from Mercedes-Benz which featured in Gran Turismo 5 will also be taking to the track to set the pulses of gaming fans racing.

Globally the PlayStation 3 racing game has so far sold more than 70 million copies, with version 5 alone being enjoyed by more than ten million gaming fans since November 2010. Mercedes-Benz can look back over a long and successful history as part of this race series. Models from the star brand have been represented in the game since the market launch of Gran Turismo 2 back in 1999/2000. According to Anders Sundt Jensen: “Both Carl Benz in 1886 and Kazunori Yamauchi, the inventor of Gran Turismo in 1998 recognised that a car can do more than just take us from A to B. Both lived the automotive dream. Driving a Mercedes or playing Gran Turismo each therefore reflects a unique experience: unprecedented driving pleasure.”
