R-Class Good January 08 for R class Sales

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class (W251) is a mid-size luxury MPV introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2005 for the 2006 model year. The R-Class shared its platform with the M-Class (W164) and GL-Class (X164) and was available in two wheelbase lengths: standard 2,980 mm (117.3 in) and long 3,215 mm (126.6 in).

Wow, 20 percent increase in sales...could this b the turnaround merc were looking for, its only 1 month, but if we can see a bigger increase over the months the R class can really turn around its embarassment...

i wonder brought out bigger sales, is it the new rear wheel drive model available with cheaper pricin...?

anyways, can always hpe 4 da best..hope merc dnt make the next 1 uglier if this starts sellin welll...:eusa_pray

Interesting. :eusa_thin

Guess people have finally caught on to the car. It's not a bad car and the styling is subjective. What I like about the R-Class is the interior space, comfort and feeling of safety it gives you. A perfect long distance cruising vehicle. I guess people see that too in this car.

I wouldnt get excited about this guys. MB must have had a lot of trunk money on these last month. People don't all of a sudden turn on to a vehicle that has been around for a while. Cheap leases, fac to dealer incentive or something else is responsible. My dealer doesn't stock more than 1 or 2 of them at a time now. Rows of E/C/S-Classes, and MLs and GLs, but no Rs.

M

I'm going to ask a salesman at the local dealer to see what is going on with the R. Must be a whole lot of trunk money on them right now.

M

I wonder what MB are planning to do with it, will the the car reincarnate into a BMW PAS type of thing?? or will they just discontinue it??

I remember reading somewhere that they have "learned" from the R "failure". I don't mind the concept, but the way it was executed was not to my taste

I expect Mercedes to stick with the R, but the re-design will be fairly dramatic.

M

That won't help much, the problem with the R-class isn't design. Mercedes simply misread the market, the demand for MPV is pretty much dead everybody buy SUVs instead. Even MPVs from Honda, Toyota and Chrysler are selling poorly compared with how they did before the market got saturated with SUV. That is one of the reason why BMW are working on a PAS, an MPV but shaped in a new and more exciting way.

Well that is what I mean a re-design. Not just the looks, but a ground-up re-think of the entire concept.

March 08 Sales
R Class = 874 unts

March 07 Sales
1224

Damn dats a big dropp...Any1 Got the R class numbedrs for February..??

An average of 1,055 sales a month since January '07... definitely not the success Mercedes were hoping for.

I'm with Luw', his explanation of why the R-class has fallen short on sales expectations is because MB misread the market and opted for a people-mover style vehicle dressed in a tuxedo. Didn't work well... and I'm wondering how successful BMW's PAS range will be.

Feb 2008: 928 vs 875 for Feb 2007 a 6.1% increase.

M

Thanx for the info Merc 1...So Merc had a good Jan and Feb for the R Class, and a bad March....Hmmm....Hard 2 Judge at the moment if its catching on or nott...

What was MercInitial Expectations..? About a 1000 units amonth doesnot sound soo bad...actually quite good...makes it aroun 13-15k a month..

Mercedes wanted to move about 25K a year, not 13-15K.

M
Wow, 25k is not realistic at all,The ML sells roughly aroun 2-2.5k a month, i cnt see merc expectin the R to sell more or close 2 the ML...

but i knw merc cAn switch R production to more GL and Ml Units,As it is the GL is a runaway Hit for merc, I wonder financially if 1k a month of R class is ok with merc, considerin the same chassis and platform with the ML and GL..

its stupid how merc wanted 25k annually. i dont think they studied and did their Homework on the market segment.
