Golf R36 spy shot.

An anonymous tipster clued us in to the long-rumored Volkswagen Golf R-37, with a cameraphone shot of a right-hand drive model said to be production ready.

According to the VW guy that showed this to me this is a full production car, not a demo or tuner model; it has AWD, a sick factory wing thing on the back, carbon fiber on all the scoops (rears are functional brake coolers!), HUGE brakes front-and-rear, fully race-ready seats and best of all a 3.7L version of the V6 currently found in the new Jetta (which is rated at 280+ hp). No official comment on horsepower figures, but the tech’s best guess was “over 300”… Doh. (BTW, this is apparently factory paint, styling & bodykit as well).

No, i don't think that a stock car (even in the way it is described above) can look like this. Look at the hoo, the spoiler and the other staff. This is no way the final product. This must be made by a crazy VW fun, wannabe street racer....

That thing is a joke; VW would never make something that looked like that out of the factory. That pic is probably of just some tuned up Golf they decided to stick onto the article.

Christmas fever seems to have gotten to Yannis... heh heh.

This is bs.

Sorry mate i can only post what's out there in the web. :D

BTW it's R36 and not R37. As for the car the flames and lines might be some kind of camo.

:t-rot:
Yannis, camo is supposed to hide features of the car. This doesn't hide anything. For some reason, minus the "camo", I don't think that this car looks all that bad. Really tuned looking, but conservative enough to get my vote.
Is the R36 confirmed? Because if it isn't it makes perfect sense to me. BMW might be upgrading the 1er line with a more powerful engine. Only makes sense to keep up with the competition.

Did you guys see the latest Top Gear? The R32 went up against the 130i M sport w/e and beat it in just about every category besides maybe driving excitement.

Yes.

Astonishingly this is a trend that extends across various publications, EVO saying the same thing (130i had better driver involvement) despite the R32 being a full second quicker around the Bedford Autodrome.

I'm amazed (and somewhat miffed) but it really does seem like that new R32 is just fantastic. Hmph, the old one was good but who would've thought that the latest incarnation would trounce the on-paper hot hatch king? :t-hands:

You sure as hell never can tell.

What. The. Heck. :t-hands:

Well, I'm not waiting to see that paint scheme come out in VW press kit pictures. Nevertheless, it should be a decent car, judging by magazine reviews as you guys mention. I wonder if it will make the R32 obsolete?

Whenever I heard about the still unconfirmed R36, people mentioned it being only for the North American market. Maybe this isn't true, but this is what I've always heard when rumors arise concerning this car. People said that we wouldn't get an R32 at all, we'd only get an R36.

Do we need R36 when we have R32?? I mean, Golf isn't Lancer EVO to get few stronger versions, it's different kind of car!!

R36 will arrive in 2007 according to some sources. I 'm not certain if it will replace R32 or not.

It's a logical progression though isn't it Yannis? Considering that the engine is already doing service in the Passat 3.6, it's only a matter of time before that mill gets squeezed into a Golf engine bay.

I was sceptical of your claims that this would eventually take place, but now I wouldn't half be surprised if you were right all along. Time will tell but I feel that the writing's on the wall.

Yannis, do you have any engine stats (specifically bore/stroke and weight) for the 3.2 V6 vs. the 3.6? Just to serve as an indication for the difference in size...
