Never mess with people who have the power to make your life miserable. That includes DMV employees, waiters and baggage handlers. And judges. Especially them.

A Miami woman facing drug charges made her situation much worse when she laughed at and then flipped off the man with the gavel. File this case under: Ill advised.

According to NBC Miami, 18-year-old Penelope Soto was in court for charges relating to possession of Xanax, a prescription drug. Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat was in the process of setting her bond. He asked Soto about the value of her jewelry. Soto laughed. That was strike one.

"It's not a joke, you know, we're not in a club now," Rodriguez-Chomat said. "We are not in a club. Be serious about it."

Soto replied: "I'm serious about it, you just made me laugh. You just made me laugh, I apologize. It's worth a lot of money."

The judge said, "Like what?" Soto compared the jewelry to a wealthy rapper. She replied that the jewelry is "like Rick Ross. It's worth money."

The perplexed judge asked if Soto had taken drugs within the past 24 hours, to which she answer, "Actually, no." The judge then set Soto's bond at $5,000 and said, "Bye-bye." Soto chuckled and said, "Adios." Strike two. The judge summoned her back and raised the bond to $10,000, eliciting gasps from those in the courtroom.

Soto asked if the judge was serious. Judges are not known for their humor, and Rodriguez-Chomat is no exception. "I am serious," he said. "Adios."

But Soto wasn't done. Instead of leaving the courtroom she flipped Rodriguez-Chomat the bird and said "F*** you." And that was strike three. Soto was again called back and then sentenced to thirty days in the big house for contempt of court.

Punk-a** kids like that need to be drop-kicked. Going to school, I am a bit older than some of the other students, by a good 7-8 years, and a good chunk (not all, but a good number of them) think everything is a joke and feel entitled. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for levity but spare me the immaturity and needless, exhaustive "drama."

/rant.

PS: I never thought I'd be that "old" guy who'd rip on the next generation...I kind of understand my parent's frustration a little bit.

Typical dumbass girl of that age.

(CBS) MIAMI - Penelope Soto, the Florida teen who was jailed after flipping off a Miami-Dade judge, avoided a month behind bars Friday after she apologized to him in person, reports CBS Miami.
The video of 18-year-old Penelope Soto's appearance before Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat on Monday went viral due to her laughing throughout the proceeding, giving the judge the middle finger and telling him, "Go (expletive) yourself!" in response to the judge raising her bond from $5,000 to $10,000. Soto had been arrested on charges of possession of Xanax.

Soto tearfully apologized to the judge and admitted she was under the influence of Xanax and alcohol during her first hearing. He then dropped her contempt of court charges and vacated her 30-day jail term. Soto's lawyer said she will complete a drug court program, which includes treatment for drug addiction and usually results in charges eventually being dropped for first-time offenders.
Judge Rodriguez-Chomat initially ordered Soto to be held on $5,000 bond, but after Soto laughed and mockingly told the judge, "Adios", the judge summoned her back to the podium and increased her bond to $10,000. That's when Soto cursed and the judge and flipped him off, earning her 30 days in jail.
