Guys relax, let everyone see the car the way he wants it.
It's hard to debate with someone who finds cars like SLR, SLS, AMG BlackSeries utterly cool, while finding 5er GT, X6, etc "completely pointless".
It's the same level of immaturity as seen in some automotive "journalists". Forever infantile. Drooling over some wet dreams objects, while all the other stuff is "pointless".
Or perhaps the other extreme: being grumpy like some old men bitching about anything new ... calling everything redundant & pointless. Like my great 96-year old grandpa. completely lost in this new times.
But yes ... calling something "pointless" or "without purpose" just because don't getting it or not needing it - that's extremely ignorant.
Every one does this. Look at CLS, it sells less than the R class here, so I guess it is a failure too, but not according to MB, cause they had low sales expectations.
As said: it's not all about expectations. It's a plan of annual production range ... And in the premium segment carmakers don't go over that - saying: look there is a huge demand right now, let's increase production for 100%" ... and then selling zero cars in 4th year of car's lifecycle.
Production is low to keep prices high, and car in demand (waiting lists etc). And all those niche cars like CLS, GT, X6 etc are there to generate some extra high profits, not sales. Profit driven, not sales driven.
And someone who claims only cars with high sales numbers (by some kind of his own merits, obviously) are a success, while low-volume cars are a failure per se, and low plans ("expectations") are just a PR, such person doesn't have a clue about car business at all. Sorry.
