  • X Gran Berlinetta Concept perfectly embodies Genesis’ characteristic Athletic Elegance design philosophy
Genesis today unveiled the X Gran Berlinetta Concept at the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Barcelona, Spain. The concept car was created as part of Polyphony Digital’s Vision Gran Turismo series and will be available to race in the game from January 2024.

The 2024 X Gran Berlinetta Concept embodies the most emotional expression of the Genesis brand’s characteristic Athletic Elegance design philosophy. The Concept was born from a design study that demonstrates Genesis’ passion and intent for the Vision Gran Turismo series.

The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept’s design language is pure and muscular with volumes centered around the wheels. Its design orchestrates the cab backwards proportions with Genesis’ typical anti-wedge attitude that is structured around a virtual parabolical tensioned theory, which is common to the Genesis model line-up. The package design maximizes the dash-to-axle ratio while moving the driver and powertrain rearward for a lean mid-engine layout.

“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” says John Krsteski, Genesis Senior Chief Designer. “We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design elements as well as technical performance attributes. It has become a catalyst of inspiration for our other programs.”

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept sports Genesis’ new front fascia, which abstracts the Crest Grille and links it with the Quad Lights. This structures the volumes and connects the front and rear with Genesis’ Two Lines brand identifier in a lightweight aerodynamic construction. Flowing through the bodyside past the gently arching front fender, the parabolic gesture is a sculpturally dominant feature, accentuating the powerful rear fender forms.

The fuselage extrudes towards the rear, culminating in an elliptical concave volume, which is common to Genesis vehicles. It is framed by a rear spoiler and lateral trailing edges for aerodynamic high-speed stability. The contrast of energetic body sculpture with technical aero details creates the ultimate expression of grand touring spirit.

The Magma color continues the X Gran Berlinetta Concept’s energetic theme. Inspired by the Genesis brand’s Distinctly Korean ethos, the bold hue references Korea’s volcanoes and the emotion, passion and vibrancy of the nation’s culture.

High performance was clearly the goal for Genesis designers, who worked to achieve impressive aerodynamic fluidity. By integrating aerodynamic aids and orchestrating internal and laminar flows, the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept’s drag coefficient stands at just 0.34.

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept’s interior derives Genesis’ Beauty of White Space attitude by creating a purist environment for the pilot. The essential functions are prioritized to maximize focus while on the race track. The digital panoramic interface serves as an information center. It is linked to the surround digital monitoring system, which provides unobstructed views of nearby vehicles. The steer-by-wire grip commands allow for precise and decisive maneuvering, giving the pilot a competitive edge.

The carbon cabin strategically incorporates soft touch points wherever the driver comes into contact. The quilted, padded bolsters protect the pilot while racing and while exiting and entering the car during pit stops.

The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept is powered by a front mid-mounted Lambda 11 V6 engine, electrically assisted by Genesis E-SC technology. The hybrid race-spec drivetrain delivers a total of 1071hp 986 lb-ft of torque, ensuring that this car is as powerful as it is beautiful. The V6 screams at 10,000 RPM while delivering a maximum output of 870hp and 790 lb-ft while the Yasa E motor generates an additional 201hp and 196 lb-ft of torque.

Gran Turismo 7 players who watch the Manufacturer’s Cup broadcast in GT7 will receive early access to the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept as a gift in January 2024. By clicking on the campaign banner in the top right corner of the GT7 world map screen to watch the broadcast from 19:00 CET on December 2nd and onwards, players will have the car delivered directly to their garage in the January update.

Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept has a screaming 10,000rpm V6

Another mind-blowing Genesis concept car has been revealed, but this time it’s got petrol-power!

"Genesis is no stranger to the concept car world and it now has the snappily-named X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept to its conceptual scrapbook. Revealed at the Gran Turismo World Finals in Barcelona, the digital concept car will be available to race in the Gran Turismo 7 video game from January 2024!

We’ve seen a few concept cars from Genesis in recent years, mainly previewing the design aspirations of the relatively new brand. The Genesis X concept that debuted at the LA Motor Show back in 2021 featured a classic coupe shape with a long, sloping bonnet and distinctive grille. This was followed by a convertible variant last year, with a more minimalist front end.

What those two cars, and the Genesis X Speedium Coupe of 2022, had in common were all-electric powerplants. The new Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept (or Genesis VGT Concept for short), however, has a V6 engine.

It’s the same basic Lambda II V6 unit as you’d find in plenty of other Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models, but this version comes with significantly more power. Genesis claims it’s designed to pump out 1,071bhp and 1,336Nm of torque - 870bhp of that coming from the V6 engine and 201bhp from an electric motor. According to Genesis, the V6 “screams'' to a 10,000rpm redline.

“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” said John Krsteski, Genesis Senior Chief Designer. “The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design elements as well as technical performance attributes. It has become a catalyst of inspiration for our other programs.”

As with the Genesis X Coupe and convertible, this VGT Concept has a low and wide body with a sleek silhouette and pronounced haunches. The grille and “Two-Lines” headlights have become a running theme of Genesis concept cars recently and here they extend around the front wheels into the wings.

To the rear, the parallel lines motif is used form the rear lights, sitting behind a pronounced section of bodywork that morphs into a rear spoiler. Beneath there’s a massive diffuser and a rain light that apes a Formula One car’s. Despite the incredible body shape, the drag coefficient stands at a fairly mundane 0.34.

Inside there’s a wraparound dash and a yoke-style steering wheel for the full concept car effect. The middle of the steering wheel features a touchscreen with readouts for the tachometer, gear selector and even a lap timer."
