El Zorro and Notic are making it hard on me this time around. Those are two splendid images.

Very interesting and well-made pic, dOmInIX! I haven't seen a single poor quality pic in this thread yet! The overall level is very good!

Zonda...you may want to think about a category for each competition if you continue this. It is very difficult to evaluate photos in a variety of subjects. We are looking at the skills and techniques of the photographer to capture images related to the subject and having a sameness of subject matter makes that easier. Just a suggestion for a fine thread.

Jack, I have thought about that. But if the contest had something like a theme each week I think we would have less contestants. I doubt many people would actually go out and take pictures soley to get a good picture for a photo comp on the internet. The way it is now pretty much everyone can enter as long as they have taken a nice photo at least once.

About a year ago or so we had rules on FCF that said that the pics had to have been taken within the last week. But the contestants were to few so the weeks became months and eventually the rule diappeared. It's best this way.

Very nice photo Matt :usa7uh:

Here is my entry for this week.

A portrait of a very dear friend of mine.

Such a gentle-looking dog BMWFREAK ...is he/she part Staffordshire Terrier?

..if you had not guessed already, I'm pretty crazy about animals.

The purpose of any competition is to generate an interest, in this case photography. If a person has an interest in entering and he does not have an image which fits the theme, then he goes out and shoots some pictures or doesn't submit that week.

It was just a suggestion and I can understand where you are coming from. I am impressed by what I have seen so far and felt a theme would provide a better method to compare the images.

I understand your point NevadaJack: you're obviously a very passionate photographer, who does everything to make photos look even better, sharper, ... In this context, it would be a good idea to create separate theme-inspired competitions in which one can participate or not. This type of competition would be more objectif: photos could be judged on rational parameters, such as lighting, colour depth, framing, composition, etc.

However, I agree with Zonda that there would be less contestants. I think the big advantage of the current photo competitions is that they are easy accessible for everybody, making it much more fun to participate. I'm always eagerly waiting to see what kind of photos other members will be posting :). I know, the resulting competition is much more subjective, but de gustibus non est disputandum ;).
