GCF car of the year 2007: Discussion thread.

I'm a bit torn on those two as well. The Scuderia is amazing in terms of technological standpoint. Ferrari's F1 team clearly helped developing it. Like you said the GT3RS is on the other side on the spectrum, very hardcore with standard mechanics.
I've watched video footage of both cars and the Ferrari isn't a bad boy drift and slide car. Considering how awfully much it cost and the expenses of repairing it, I can't see many of the owners driving it on tracks. It's the type of car you buy just to stare and admire every ounce of it. More of a weekend/collectors item then a car you play round with.

shouldnt we only be able to vote for 07/08 models... not 09 models like the IS-f? I dont think we should be able to vote for cars that we dont know anything about-it seems a bit, well lame, to have a car of the year and not take year into account-dont you guys think?

My votes went to:
GTR: Though I still have issues with the way the front looks, absolutely phenomenal performance.
M3: Despite the customary initial bad press, the M showed how it is done and absolutely took the competition to school around a track. And this time around it even more comfortable than the competition.
135i: A good back to basics car. Tough to find a better price-performance ratio in this segment even among the Japanese.

How better to sum up the M3... A better sports car by far and easily a better day to day car then the previous (god-like) M3... How can this car not be the car of the year

Don't ban me now, but the reason is because this guy is an idiot and has been putting the car down for the longest time. EVEN THOUGH all the damn magazines have proved that the car is badass, Poverty lives in a world where everyone else is wrong except for him.

1.Its meant to be faster than the 997 TT. Two magazines have proved its not.
2. Nissan claimed a ridiculously fast 'ring time. When tested independantly it did nowhere near that time. SportAuto said nissans claims were highly optimistic.
3. Nissan claims super fast 0-62 times. they used the same testing methods as american car magazine R&T to get those quick times. The way R&T do their testing is a unviable method of collecting data that is relevant to real life conditions. Basically speaking the way they get their figures is done so that people will never be able to replicate it in real life. If every car manufacturer followed R&T methods their vehicles would all, all of a sudden be alot quicker on paper, but the same speed in real life.
4. The car has not much steering feel.
5. The car drives itself, the driver is near enough just a spectator, too many computers.
6. It runs out of steam at 175mph where acceleration just slows down whilst cars such as the 997TT keep pulling strong.
7. Take the car to a racetrack and the delimiter deactivates. However it also voids the car's warranty.
Most over hyped car of the year. Its a good car but it hasnt exactly moved the game on or "moved the goal posts" as some people like to claim.

Poverty has many controversial posts but calling him names isnt nice thing to do.
Regarding GTR it is a nice car and a great value and all but as I said before the car doesn't do much for me. Buying a car is about emotions and feelings and since I'm not feeling the car , I wouldn't buy a GTR. I rather put my money on something else, for instance a Corvette ZR-1.

Though I can't agree, I appreciate your response Poverty. Nor can I deny some of the fact that's you've brought to life - specifically the point pertaining 2 people on board with at least half a tank of fuel "proof". But then again, lots of magazines test their vehicles with one driver and much less than half a tank of petrol. That is certainly not a secret. Especially American publications.
And regarding your issue with the top-end of the vehicle, I honestly don't see the relevance.... Yes, perhaps the GT-R is not blistering as Nissan claims, but that does not make it a bad car in anyway.
But in the end, aren't you just - quite frankly - holding too much faith in manufacturer numbers? Whether the GT-R is .0897868 slower or faster than the 997, or whether the GT-R has a braking distance which is .8676859 slower than the 997 does it really matter? We're talking about figures which are relatively identical.
Is the GT-R as fast as they claim? Maybe, maybe not - but it's certainly fast (and technlogically advanced) enough for me
