Hi everyone, I'm now getting ready to start university and I have always admired the G55 especially after trying out my friend's 2006 but I have a question, I will be getting a low mileage(around 15000km) 2008 or 2007 model and it will be my first and only car so I was wondering (fuel economics aside) if it's good as a daily driver?
I will be doing around 140KMs on it each weekend and very little on the normal weekdays.

hey mate go for it it will be aewsome yes it will be thirsty but you aint going to use it much so go for it and please please we all want pics.......The g55 is a awesome machine....:usa7uh:

The car is extremely thursty (17l average I believe), the suspensions are not that supple. And careful with full-throttle on the rain.

Other than that, it's perfectly useable everyday. It's a modern car in every sense of the term despite its age, the 55K is a reliable motor, so if you can, go for it!

Yep - most uneconomical Mercedes you can buy…nevertheless it's a stunning machine!! But I would ask myself: "Do I need a 500 hp monster, do I need the space etc?!" As for a daily drive, go for a CDI engined Merc - you will be smiling each time you have to refill your car!!

If you can keep up with the running costs (mainly fuel, since it needs a lot of the stuff) then the car isn't a problem as a daily driver.

Just be careful driving aggressively in the pouring rain as was mentioned already. :usa7uh:

Year or two old G55 AMG as your first car?
Great car, but not knowing anything about you, are you sure you want that?
Might be better starting off with something different (cheaper) until after university

Lol life is good ehh?
Starting university and having a G55 as a first car...

Enjoy it..the damn thing rocks:D

I think .. the guy is from UAE. G55 is great but if you are looking for an SUV they are better options, with the same power. Unless, you are liking the design of the G55 then I don't blame you. The car is unique.

Car is good for daily driving, nice comfort and ride, fuel being cheap in UAE will not be an obstacle. But if you are looking for something sportier , you have the Cayenne turbo or X6 50i. The ML63 is also a fast SUV.

If money is not an issue, G-55 is among the best car to go for! However, I'll rather buy a X6-M! :usa7uh:

Being thirsty is not an issue, if you can afford to buy one! Roll every single second you can in it! :t-cheers:

Thanks for the replys guys! X6 and Cayennes are everywhere here and I never liked the design of the X6 nor a 4WD Porsche, plus I'm from UAE but not from Dubai or AD so the number of G55's in my city is less than 10 which is great unlike the Cayenne/RR/X5/X6 which are in probably in thousands and are reffered to here as Chav's rides haha.

Anyways, I guess it's just the old, classic, unique design that I like and knowing that the monster underneath the gas pedal would never fail you is a great feeling hahaha...

Now it's off to Al Aweer car market, let's hope I find some color other than B/W.

I guess those are the most common. Go for turquoise if you want to stand out, they are great in white, though.

Salem: Alaweer will rip you off .. first go to uaesm.com (car sales) and then search for someone putting his car on sale.

Okay so I found a 2008 Mocha Black(which is my fav. color) with a beige interior that has 20,000km on its clock and I can get it for 360,000AED from Gargash which is around 90000$ is this a good deal or not? because they will also give me 2 years extended warranty in addition to the current one.

If it is Designo, go for it. if not, you might find cheaper ..

assuming it was priced at 515K at the dealer (or even more if bought with premium price to avoid the waiting).

515K - 20% (first year depreciation) = 412K (which is more than what you were offered).

I think 360K is reasonable.
