"Forwards not Backwards": BMW Group into 2010 and Beyond. (updated)

Re: " Forwards not Backwards : BMW Group into 2010 and Beyond.

My doubts were never focused on the BMW engineers' competence because i think they are with the porsche guys the most brillant and lucky in the automotive world, and if it comes to engines, no one can compete aigainst them. The reasons of my doubts were concerning the financial aspect.

Re: " Forwards not Backwards : BMW Group into 2010 and Beyond.

Thanks, Scott. So in the AWD line-up, the X6 should be in the fast lane to release followed by F5/V5. Is it decided to call it F5 or V5?

X6 launch in 2008, F5 in 2009.
In X6 xDrive will be standard, in F5 optional.

Sports Cruisers will be called F-series. LuxurySC will be F5, CompactSC will wear F3 badge.

I've checked brand name / trademark registers in US & EU again - BMW AG have filed for "F" names F2 - F9 registration lately in US & EU. No activities regarding "V-series" in progress.

So, "F" is coming from BMW. :t-cheers:

Btw, also the following trademarks / brand names have been (re-)registred lately by BMW AG: X6, Clubman, BMW EfficientDynamics, BMW Active Hybrid, X1, 7H, 1- series (in US).

So both the code and brand name will be F5 & F3?

I guess X1 is still an option. :usa7uh:

Some say that if you look into someone's eyes you can see their soul....we can..." and in the headlights is the 2002.

Scott, wasn't that the campaign for the facelifted E39 5er? I vividly recall the exact same copy being used in BMW's print & web at the time.

M1 with a high rev 6 in the new 1er coupe

A dream come thru.

I was so dissapointed with 3 series and 3er coupe got bigger an the m3 is more a GT than an agile car for corners. But an m1 will fill the gap perfect.

M1 Thats my new car.

When can we expect one scott eni?

I am not overly familiar with US marketing , But in order to show up our creativity when we are shown first images - Your brain starts working on how we can approach each model - That one was off the top of somebodys head but it could be used as it befits the model we are talking about.

But the Symbolic meaning of "Forwards never Backwards": resonates quite well from 1er Coupe to the flagship BMW Z9 GT (Gran Turismo) 4dr coupe! And news that Magazine comparisons in Germany between the new C-Klasse and the 3er have shown that BMW is still the true drivers sport sedan.
BMW can only ascend higher!

BMW plans to expand its diesel line in the U.S.

David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau

NEW YORK -- BMW said today it would build its new 2008 X6 crossover at its South Carolina plant and bring a twin-turbo diesel to the U.S. market in 2008, part of a growing push to expand diesels in the United States.
BMW also said it will increase its capacity of its South Carolina plant from 140,000 to 200,000 units in the next few years.
The company unveiled its new 5 series here at the New York Auto Show.
It has renamed its 525i sedan the 528i and given it 230 horsepower and 200 pounds of torque with updated six-cylinder engines. The new vehicles have more leather, larger door pockets, additional storage space and a lane departure system that vibrates the steering wheel if a driver changes lanes without using the turn signal. It also showed a picture of a Sport Activity Coupe concept that combines all-wheel drive and off-road capability with a coupe-like design.
BMW's U.S. chairman and CEO Tom Purves said the company would introduce 30 new models by 2010 and between 2005 and 2009, BMW worldwide is investing $25 billion in expanding its business activities. In 2006, the company invested $3.3 billion -- or about 5 percent of its revenue -- in research and development.
Since 1996, the company has invested $3 billion in its Spartanburg, S.C. facility, while its U.S. suppliers have invested another $2 billion. BMW builds its X5 and Z4 Roadster and coupe only at its U.S. plant and exports them to 120 markets worldwide. It is the leading U.S. exporter to non-NAFTA markets.
The company is also making a $100 million expansion to its Woodcliff Lake, N.J. headquarters -- adding 220,000 square feet of engineering, office and training space.
BMW's new Valvetronic variable-valve control system in its 3 and 5 series delivers up to 17 percent greater power with up to 10 percent better fuel economy, the company said. Between 1990 and 2005, its miles per gallon increased more than 22 percent for its car fleet, in part by using lighter weight magnesium engines to improve fuel economy as well as lighter weight materials throughout.
"People want performance but not at any price," Purves said. "They also want to be able to tell their friends at tennis that their new BMW also gets better fuel economy."
For BMW, 2006 marked the company's 15th consecutive year of U.S. sales increases.

30 models includes LCI facelifts of current models, new Mks of existing models, new M variants, and of course completely new yet-non-existing series / models (1er coupe, 1er cabrio, X6, F5)!

1-30 series? Wow...and to think BMW people where saying that Mercedes-Benz makes to many models.

Well good for BMW for tryng to take on Benz model line up and increase there own line up.

But if they want my attention ..

A BMW 7 series coupe (comparable to the CL)
A BMW SUV LARGE above the X5 that is atleast the GL size or larger
A BMW M7 so the S65 has some company in the future

They do that and I might just buy a BMW in the future or atleast get a BMW hat.

Best of Luck BMW :usa7uh: Make me Happy!

I have taken time out from my schedule to answer to your attention.

But if they want my attention ..
You have my attention....

A BMW 7 series coupe (comparable to the CL)
I ask why do you need such a car BMW dont. When the CS production car comes along either badged as 8er or 9er or a Z model , You will see that we do not need such a model in our product line up. CS will be the flagship of BMW and as mentioned many times before the connection from BMW to Rolls-Royce. It will be positioned as a high end premium model right against the top line CL-Klasse models but the production CS will have more room than a conventional Coupe . Due to the reaction at the IAA when the CS made it's debut (Next Stop LA) The public were impressed by the style and function of the CS , The competion will be tough what with Aston Martin and Porsche but I guarantee that we will one day see direct Mercedes-Benz and Audi Rivals in this segment. Then after the bridge connects from BMW to RR . The Entry level RR will replicate like todays Phantom a Coupe and Cabrio , any BMW above the CS would be overkill. The Top end models will end with the CS and the Z8/Z10 Roadster . Then it starts with the entry level Rolls-Royce cars.

A BMW SUV LARGE above the X5 that is atleast the GL size or larger
The GL-Klasse is built specifically for the US in the US and it shows in it's appearance. Mercedes execs think of this as the Merc answer to Hummer in size terms . But there is overkill there is the M-Klasse , and the R-Klasse two vehicles that perform the same purpose as the GL-Klasse.
BMW do not need such a vehicle because the X5 is sufficient enough and then eventually we will have the RFK or Progressive Activity Sedan which sums up BMW's attitude to this class of vehicle. It is not really progressive enough it's all about size , fuel consumption and weight. And with the rumours becoming more likely in industry circles of the Blinged up GL-Klasse badged as a Maybach. It just goes to show that BMW will keep their Xcess to X5 only. If you can say that BMW did have a GL-Klasse rival then it was the BMW developed Range Rover. and in the success of that vehicle sums up the overall acceptance of the GL-Klasse.

A BMW M7 so the S65 has some company in the future
At BMW we do plan our strategies based upon other manufacturers we constantly research and develop our own ideas. A current M7 on the E65 is not possible whereas a F01 M7 is not impossible, But BMW board of directors are against such a car simply for the reason that there is the M5 and that is the tradition of M division top sedan it is M5. But BMW only apply the M badge if the concept is right that is why you wont see an X5 but you will see the X6 because the concept is right and open to creativity.
S65 AMG's only sell in small numbers , BMW are hoping that the CS production model will offer something more unique as a M-division car. again the Concept of a four door Coupe is more appealing to support the M tri-color on its trunk rather than a sedan which would take away attention from the tradition, success and desirability of the M5 badge.
M5 will stay in it's segment and the flagship M model will be something that emotionally connects with the history and tradition of BMW M-Division but with a cutting edge concept - more exciting and appealing than a large sedan.

As for the Autobild illustraions of the PAS and the MINI SUV...

No.No.No.No.....

The MINI "comber" SUV is nothing like that thank god... Thats horrible wait till Geneva...

BMW planning 12 new models by 2011

The recent introduction of the new 1-series Coupe and Cabrio and the reveal of the segment starting X6 ‘Sport Activity Vehicle’ is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of new models for BMW. As outlined in its official future strategy document released in late September, BMW is targeting vehicle sales of 1.8 million units by 2012 and to do so it’s planning a host of new model launches over the coming years.

According to a report by AutoZeitung, BMW will launch 12 new models between now and 2011 starting with a new entry level minicar. The new model will be a small three-door four seater with FWD and measure just 3.8m in length. It will feature the full gamut of BMW EfficientDynamics technology including brake energy recovery and engine stop-start features. Powertrains will include both petrol and diesel motors as well as a hybrid option and possibly a plug-in hybrid model with a range of 100km. Launch date for the car is 2011.

In 2010 production of the new Mini Colorado SUV should start at a factory in Leipzig. Engines will include both petrol and diesel units with power ranging from 120 to 175hp.

Next year will see sales of the 1-series Cabrio start as well as the arrival of the next-generation 7-series. The new saloon will feature for the first time options for AWD, pneumatic air suspension and a hybrid model.

The next-generation 5-series won’t arrive until 2010 but a concept version of the car will be displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009. Power levels will range from 170hp to 480hp. The new M5 is rumored to feature a new twin-turbo V10 with output close to 600hp.

2010 will also see the launch of the new CS-inspired flagship four-door coupe. There will only be two engine options available, a 420hp V8 and a 507hp V10 as shared with the current M5 and M6. This same year, BMW will also introduce a new X1 crossover designed to rival the upcoming Audi Q3 and VW Tiguan soft-roaders. BMW will follow this with the next-generation X3, which is set to grow in size over the current model and will be manufactured in America.

The final addition will be the production version of the Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS). BMW’s original plan was to develop a luxury minivan similar to the Mercedes R-class but product planners disbanded the idea and have instead decided to build a crossover based on the 5-series platform. It will feature coupe styling, an AWD configuration and be in showrooms by 2009.
