Another popular performance Ford for the 1980s was the XR3 Escort and the later RS Turbo
These cars gave the Golf GTi some competition but was not a match for the VW as an all rounder. They perhaps had the smallest 2 spoke steering wheel I ever saw in a car.

I disagree; at the same level, or even better, I remember the respect the XR3 commanded and the great popular success it was among enthusiasts, totally desirable.
