The Mercedes-Benz C216 is the last generation grand tourer named CL-Class. Predecessor: CL-Class (C215). Successor: S-Class (C217). Production: 2005–2014.
It amazes me, how a certain member of this forum gets mad when someone thinks Autocar is biased.

But really, in my case, I can't think of any other thing than strong bias, in a content like this:

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review...-s350-bluetec-l-se-line-first-drive-re?page=1

Also note, how they don't mention other competition like 7 series, A8, Quattroporte and Lexus LS. Beyond pathetic

- dead right, Gianclaudio. Autocar's whole bias joke thing isn't even a joke any more - more like a cancer eating journalism - no one jokes about cancer.

The thing about detestable Autocar is it's just a case of whoever pays the piper calls the tune. The piper here is JLR's bloated, festering marketing budget. Autocar is just an extension of JLR's PR. Anyone with sense will regard it as a pariah and a warning to others of what happens when you sell your soul.

It amazes me, how a certain member of this forum gets mad when someone thinks Autocar is biased.

And it amazes me how you and several other members get upset just because a review doesn't agree with what you WANT to read.

I wouldn't accuse anybody or any magazine of bias just because they don't agree with my OWN preconceived idea of what I think the car is like. Gianclaudio, you haven't even SEEN the S-Class in real life never mind driven it! So, do you realise how biased THAT viewpoint is? To actually have an opinion on how a car should be received even though you haven't even set eyes on it? It's very biased. I suggest you look up "bias" in the dictionary if you need any more clarification.

"Beyond pathetic" is how I would describe people's reaction when they see a review not correlate with their own and then throw their toys out of the pram, which is what yourself and several other members on here do.

I couldn't give a toss WHAT a journalist says about a car. I'm intelligent enough to make up my own mind should I be in the position to buy one.

Oh, and we can all play the game of highlighting what you want to highlight. Autocar did write this...

"If you are a luxury car customer who wants the most comfortable and refined car out there then the S-class is for you. "

Seriously, get a grip......

The glove did fit you, didn't it?

First and foremost.. which is my opinion on the S class and were do I mention the Autocar review doesn't meet my own criteria?

This is not about Autocar meeting or not my expectation on what I'll like to hear/read (or not) about the S class.

My two points are about,

1) Why, deliberately, the 7er, A8, Quattroporte and LS are not even mentioned in the article, whereas the XJ and RR are. If the autor does feel oportune to make a comparition with other cars, why let out the main rivals and just talk about the JLR products? Aren't the forementioned rivals good enough?

2) In which sense the RR "moved the game" more than the S class. You don't have to be a genius to realize the impact the S class has on the whole industry. It's arguably the car that indeed moves the game and raise the bar generation after generation, and where most safety, comfort and technological gadgets debut.

What's the "feels more of the same" and "derivative interior" part on the S class more evident compared to the Rangie? The s class interior is a white sheet new design compared to the W221, whereas the Rangie is an evolution of the old.

How can you be so blind or choose to to be so blind, when the situation it's so obvious is beyond my rational thinking. And then you have the bravery to call my reaction as beyond pathetic.....

As a final, color note. Yesterday on Autocar's website home there wasn't any feature about the first S class they tested. They let the new for two days and then removed it.
When they try a Rangie, the new stays in first page for days and days. I've posted, TWICE, on the RR threads, captions where the whole Autocar's homepage was dedicated to Range Rover articles.

Mercedes paid Autocar a lot of cash in their latest issue when A45 amg beat both m135i and golf gti. That's what I've told here.

Pure, refined, irratinal paranoia. You have a theory and it's human nature to "fit" circumstances to match that.

There have been many times when what you say DIDN'T happen. It's just that you don't notice it. There have been many group tests when the JLR products DIDN'T win. Why would they do that if they're biased towards JLR?

What about when they featured a Porsche Macan on the front cover on May 22nd and predicted it to be the best SUV of 2014? Are they not supposed to be paid by JLR? Why are they saying that when they should be supporting the Evoque?

Exactly. Kilcrohane banged on and on about UK car mags doing a "hatchet" job on the MB A 45 AMG, yet it beat the M135i.

I personally would have the M135i but I don't start throwing my toys out of my pram just because a review doesn't agree with what I think.

Some people really need to get a grip.

- yep, Tata's JLR, The East India Company in reverse.

Didn't the East India Company provide opium to the Chinese? At least it was safer than a Range Rover!

The East India Company was Dutch, and I am sure the Chinese had enough of the stuff for themselves already. Maybe the VOC trasported it back to Europe though?

Is this a joke? Would you think a mere Golf GTI would be able to match an A45 or something? MB doesn't have to pay anything to anyone. The A45 is the hottest hatch ever made. Stating otherwise would only look stupid.
Then again...M135i remains my no 1 choice and best driving hatch ever made.

Why am I talking all this off topic btw?!?

Clearly missing JustMe's point completely.

My 2 cents on the bias thing... I don't think there is a case of malicious corrupt bias some imply. But there is some inherent patriotic bias and that is not just limited to Autocar or British Mags. I mean American cars do better in American magazines than they do in Euro magazines. Japanese cars do better in those videos that that Japanese magazine puts out (the name escapes my memory). German cars do better in German magazines. And Italian ones better in Italian magazines. May be a little bit of that is just patriotic bias, a little bit because the cars fit the national character/taste and a lot probably because that is what you dreamed of as a child. Chances are an American auto journalist probably fantasized of a Mustang or a Vette more than his German counterpart as a kid. So if you ask me, take it all in with a healthy dose of skepticism but hold back on the crazy conspiracy theories and enjoy auto journalism for it's best parts -

Very good post and I agree wholeheartedly.

Some of the tin-foil hat-wearing members should take note.

It's human nature to have a slight element of bias in ANYTHING. A referee may sub-consciously remember a time in the previous season when a football manager had a rant at him, so without actually meaning to, lets certain decisions go the other team's way.

A journalist may have some personal preference of a car.

Autocar, Auto Express, American car magazines, German car magazines MAY have an agenda backed up by payments from car manufacturers.

My point is that there is NO EVIDENCE of this, and I see NO trend that JLR or other cars have preferential treatment. For every example somebody points out where a JLR product gets a good review, I could show an example where it DOESN'T win a test. They just see what they want to see because it fits their own bias. That's the ironic point people are missing in all of this. The people crying "bias!" are actually VERY biased because they already have the "correct" result in their minds before it even happens! Oh, and that's without even driving the cars themselves.

LOL@Klier :D

Let me get this straight. You're ACTUALLY laughing out loud at Klier's comment?

What makes it so funny? Apart from failing to actually engage in an intelligent discussion he's just trolled to elicit a response.

Clearly.

And your sensitivity towards British bias is funny. Keep on denying it.

Yeah, yeah, and your sensitivity towards me because I pointed out you completely missed the point is funny.

I am against suggestions of bias towards ANY nationality, until I actually see some evidence. British magazines are by far the most discussed magazines on here, but that's only because they have at least FIVE major titles and they're in English, the most WIDELY spoken language in the world. I'm sure we'd all be discussing Dutch bias if you actually had a car industry and Dutch was spoken across the globe.

I've lived in Holland for twelve years now and I wouldn't move back to the UK if you paid me. I have no kinship towards the UK whatsoever. Yet because I'm British you think this MUST be me protecting my country's journalistic integrity. Yet again you trying to make the situation fit your prejudged opinion.

The irony of all this is hilarious.

I don't understand a word of it, but the car looks great.
