First comparison: BMW 335i versus CLK 350

The other thing about this 335i is the potential mods that can be performed easily. Being a forced induction engine means that a simple ECU re-program or changing pulleys can result in significant gains in HP and torque.

Yes, I'm sure there will be some crazy tuners for that new model. It will be interesting to see what the results will be.

Very exciting.... Anyone placing thier orders yet?

That sound is AWESOME! Thanks for posting! *KARMA*

In my eyes, performance wise and handling wise , the 335i destroyed the CLK 350. 4 seconds slower around a track is a huge gap and almost 5 seconds slower to 200km/h.
Mercedes need to release next generation CLK soon or at least offer a new engine. Something between CLK350 and CLK500 but of course the price difference will be larger. CLK350 is too slow compared to a 335i as the ways are now.

The CLK350 isn't a sports car like the 335i and doesn't directly compete with the 335i. CLK buyers want their car for comfort, not performance and handling.

i'm sorry, but they are direct 100% competition

they are still competitors, just like M5 is to E63 and C55 to M3 and 550i to E500 ;) Sorry Caw ,cannot agree with you this time :D

C'mon, the CLK350 competed at best with the 330i, not 335i. I have no problems with the CLK loosing because I know what the car was designed to do, and most magazines are sports biased anyway. But the CLK350 does not compete with the 335i.

When Mercedes brings out the CLK350 CGI, then the 335i will have found a competitor from Mercedes.

that car isnt out yet therefore CLK350 which also cost more the only competitior from MB at the moment. BTW a 335i is comfortable as well, like the mag stated, not far away from CLK350

Also I cant agree that magazines are sportbaised, not like they where before thats why BMw lost a lot of comparisons lately. Today, mags prefer comfortable cars.

Yep, I second that.:t-banghea
But when the CGI comes along, BMW will have the Si.:D

P.S.
BTW, anyone knows if it will have a twin-clutch ?!
Eni ?!

Does anyone know off hand what the price difference is between these cars??

I highly doubt the 335i will beat the M3 E46 around hockenheim but possibly around nordshleife.

In germany, about 47.000 euro for CLK350 and about 43.000 euro for 335i. Base price of course.

No comprendo????? uhh what does that mean...:)

You should not be surprised/astonished by anything.
Medium speeds are aparently the turf of the 335i, so maybe, it will win on the Hockenheim too.

YEa you right but the issue with that is that the E46 M3 achieved the same time as the E60 M5 around hockenheim....

why is that an issue?

Its not an Issue per say but it just makes it seem less likely that the 335 will beat the M3 if the E60 M5 couldnt beat the M3 around hockenheim.

Power isnt everything on Hockenheim. Weigth and and speed through the bends are more important.

The CLK350 has always competed with the 330i - even if it was more expensive.

Now the 335i comes along and all of a sudden the CLK350 competes against it? 306 vs 272-horsepower? Huh?

Sorry, the CLK350 competes against the 330i. Right now, there is no Mercedes car to compete with the 335i.

And I believe you about the 335i's comfort levels. However, the 335i is a sports car, the CLK is a luxury GT cruiser with a small emphasis on sport.
