First clash: BMW 5er (F10) vs MB E-class (W212)

True!! I am a fan of most of the cars the german manufacture produce!! But there are some I like more and some that are not that cool!!

But most of the BMW and Mercedes models are that great, that I wouldn't know, which one is best - but here (F10 vs. W212) it is easy: F10!!

Way too early, indeed. However, I can't see how people find the merc good looking. Especially the back. Looks is subjective, of course, but this is no good looking car.

Truely sexy, aggressive... BMW for me.

Too early for now, but I can already say that the W212 will have a very hard time to come when the new 5 and A6 arrive. The design won't last long I'm afraid.
For now it's pretty, but only because it lacks next gen counterparts.

W220 looked fresh until 06
SL still looks like one of the best roadster on earth..

I think you are very right on this Artist! The Mercedes design direction is focused in elegant designs rather than the more "extreme" designs we see from BMW. And we know that elegance doesn't die with time and holds its value. That's why MBs always look great despite their age. Due to their elegance!

I highly disagree giannis, agressive has never meant untimeless, the 2 Bimmers genarations before the E65 plus some other classics like the old 6er and 3.0 cs are one the most agrerssive and the most timeless at the same time.

I didn't rule out agressiveness as a timeless design characteristic. I just commented on elegance as a design direction! What i wanted to say is that elegant cars may not be of groundbraking design (that doesn't rule out the use of some "groundbraking" design cues), but hold their design value due to their "politically-correctness".

On the other hand, "politically-correctness" doesn't mean that the car will be timeless. Think of the current Huyndai Elantra for example. Nice car, not offensive design. Very politically correct. It's not elegant though, nor aggressive! Just a simple design. So not a timeless design. Same for the most Corolla generations.

As for aggressive cars, they can also be timeless. But this is much more complicated. There is elegant aggressiveness, raw aggressiveness, etc. Think of the old 6er and a Mitshubishi EVO for example. Two different forms of aggressiveness, yet both (EVO VI for example) are timeless!

Elegance is not as objective as aggressiveness is.

The same happens to E-Class, the W211 will be a classic in a few years, and the W210 still looks strange to me. W211 is for Mercedes what the E39 is for BMW.

Why is Elegance oppsed to agressiviness ? I think you should talk about understated cars rather than elegant cars if you want to oppose them to agressive cars.
