The E I think is too transformer like from the front, in real life at this stage it looks nothing special, the shape makes it look even smaller than the W211 but maybe time will help it.

So when's the new E-class coming again.... ? ;) :D

The BMW has a lot to live up to in terms of steering, handling AND ride. Many reviews have stated the E sets new benchmarks in all respects.

As for the looks, the BMW certainly is promising. The E does make a statment in the metal. Only time will tell how their respective designs hold up.

:t-cheers:

Fair enough. But did Mercedes-Benz designers really have to screw up the look of the thing? I have seen the car in real life and it doesn't look much better than it does in the photos.

I have seen a few NEW E recently.
The Brownish,White,Silver,Greenish and Black..

When i first saw pics off the car i was not very shure off the car.

One thing i must say the car has to be seen in real it is a stunning car from all angles..It is a very special car and those rear lights at night are just amazing..

And the interior is brilliant well built and very luxioriuos and a awesome place to be in..

My choice would be a white with the beige and black interior...

One thing i like about the E is it is very different from the C and S..

The new 5er looks very nice sofar but in a way its so boring front has simalaraties to 3 and the side and rear are simalar to 5 and the interior is a mix of the 7 and 3..Very boring and nuthing different or new..

IRL - especially in silver color the W212 looks sooooo BMWish - so, E60ish: all that sharp creases, convex / concave surfaces, robust detailing - yet having much more presence than E60.

All that sharp robust detailing does not very MBish at all. :t-hands:

Also: the car just looks so massive - yet that's typical for MB. :usa7uh:

The E class looks much better IRL, specialy the front.

It sure does. It has a lot of presence - and that overall boxy shape fits the car extremely well.

What it bothers is is the styling / detailing: the used "flame surfacing" (sharp creases + convex/concave surfaces) and combined it with angular shapes & lines. They gave the car that robotic / mechanic look that lacks grace. Similar to Cadillac or Acura.

"Flame surfacing" works much better with more organic & rounded lines ... even no boxy shapes. As MB has proven on ODC & all those Zero concepts etc.

:t-cheers:

Be sure the next Benzes will be (more) organic - rounder, softer, less angular lines ...

I think many people forget what MB actually tried and did with the new E class.

Their main plan was to get customers to think off the W124 series and that is why they went for the boxt design.after the poor start to the W211 in terms off problems and reliabilty Merceds took a bold step and make the customers remeber the solidity of the W124 series merc.

When i saw and drove the first W212 that new brwnish colour i really loved the car and i must say u can really understand the design off the car when you see it in real...The one thing i didnt like was the rear wheel was to small for the car it looked a bit odd their..

The front looks very different in real then the picture you see shown here..

I wait to see the new Bmw next to the New E in real i am shure both will be great cars...and will cater for their customers and their needs. My main dissapointment for me with the recent BMW cars is they seem to have gone soft on styling and also almost all the cars i mean sedans except the 1 are all almost the same or simalar...

My views guys...

Cadillac and Acura also employ angular lines but their and Mercedes' design philosophies couldn't have been any more different. The Cadillac's have more defined angles and lines while the E-Class is commanding in its appearence but still managed to look normal as opposed to a movie prop.

I saw a Grey E350 today with AMG kit and I'm finally won over. The car looks teriffic -- formal, modern and very much a Mercedes-Benz.

We've yet to see the F10 in full, but I hope that BMW have gifted it with some distinct design features so that it doesn't look like generic.

What happened to BMWs diversity among models. It looks like a smaller F01 with maybe a couple E90 cues.

Guess the usual suspects are going to have to stop raggin' on Audi about "same sausage different lengths." :D
