X1 Fifth Gear reviews the BMW X1

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.

So my theory is, if Europeans don't care for a car, it was probably designed for the American market.

This car is least BMW from the current BMW model lineup, regarding the design. It is rather pointless and ugly. If someone is actually buying an SUV, he is supposedly looking for a car that is big, high from ground, capable of going off road at least sometimes. BMW X1 can't really offer all this, being based on BMW 1-series which is small hatchback IMO. I have absolutely no interest in cars like this.

The car aside...what a boring review. This is why I don't watch 5th gear. It's a waste of my bandwidth to download boring ass shows.

On the car...I think BMW have been pretty clear about who they're targeting with this vehicle...and this jackass covered not one of them. I'm sure if this is priced right in the US, I will see these around my college campus like I see the 3 series.

X1 looks pretty decent, but I would have to agree with him on space. Car looks very cramped and claustophobic in that video.

Is he retarded?

I think he's an intern, but the producers didn't to his non-existant talant any favours with such a weak review. The stereostypes depicted are not acted in a convincing way and the jokes don't punch at the right word. I can't think of anyone who would be amused by this review. Fifth Gear is in desperate need of a new producer or editor who can save, what was once a fantastic show, from sinking.

This is supposed to be the smallest SUV / SAV BMW sells (not considering the Mini). Yes it is based on the 1er, so it's not a GL class size... I actually think it is enough for what it's supposed to be - the smallest BMW SUV...
If you want a bigger SUV, wait for the X3...
If you want to save money, buy a Yeti :D
BMW SUVs are not made for off-roading, not even the X5, so why should the baby SUV be a Freelander killer off-road???
It is supposed to be an alternative to the small baby SUVs around and for people who are looking for the higher ride and more massive look of an SUV, instead of their 3er touring or A4T, or young people looking for an entry to the BMW range, without making do with the small 1er hatch.

And BTW, I actyally think the X1 looks quite nice :

this review was very annoying
when has it became cool to give bad scores, this review has NEVER even tried to be objective ... i guess he tries very hard to become a jeremy clarkson

My father is in the market for X1, a replacement for my Mum's 1-series. He thinks the car looks good and he wants a diesel engine with good fuel consumption.
So yes there is a market for these type of cars. The sales are going to be very good for X1.

^Better tell your dad to give up on this one, FG say it's crap and you should believe them.

:t-cheers:

They been trying for a long time, and thats why the show if failing. They should try to copy others, they should try to do something new and ENTERTAINING...

maybe this is actually where they are failing, they are trying to entertain
doing objective reviews is probably not fun enough for the viewer and therefore leads to bad odds(=is this the amount of tv viewers ? not sure)

Let's be honest. If the show isn't entertaining, no body will watch it, especially if cars are involved. No body wants to watch a car show where they talk about how good the buttons feel when pressed or how the elongated windshield makes the wind-noise worse. People want car shows to be entertaining...period. Top gear has figured this out and they will tell you how pressing buttons feel, but it will always be entertaining. Fifth Gear...it's a cheeky british version of Motortrend TV...which should be outlawed for being boring.
