- FIAT 500e retains its accolade as Best Electric Small Car at the What Car? Electric Car Awards 2023
- Electric 500e continues to be recognised for its competitive pricing, impressive range, retro design and fun driving dynamics
- Latest award win adds to the FIAT 500e’s growing trophy cabinet
The all-electric FIAT 500e has once again scooped What Car?’s award for Best Electric Small Car at its 2023 Electric Car Awards, making it the category winner for the third year in a row.
The What Car? judges continued to be impressed by the electric 500e’s distinctive and retro styling - both inside and out - and seamless integration of the latest technology. In addition, it recognised the 500e’s entertaining driving dynamics while still retaining “the original’s tight, city-friendly turning circle and nimble feel”.
The 500e’s price point also stood out against its competitors, with the entry level 24kWh model remaining one of the most affordable fully-electric cars on sale, and the longer range 42kWh model undercutting rivals by a significant margin. As the judges pick of the range, the 42kWh variant offers 199 miles of range (WLTP) and achieves 0-62mph in 9.0 seconds.
Earlier this year, FIAT launched its E-Grant – a £3,000 incentive to help people make the switch to electric – which is available for both the fully-electric 500e and 500e convertible.
FIAT 500e is the first fully-electric model in the brand’s history and boasts a range of best-in-class features such as Level 2 Autonomous Driving technologies and a driving range of up to 199 miles (WLTP) – the longest range of any electric city car on the market today.
It also benefits from fast charging capabilities, allowing the battery to recharge to 80 per-cent range in only 35 minutes. In addition, 30 miles of range takes only five minutes.
Steve Huntingford, Editor, What Car?, said: “The exterior design of the electric 500 manages to offer retro appeal while feeling utterly up to date. And likewise, the interior remains charming, yet features all of the kit buyers now expect. The 500 also has the sort of tight turning circle and nimble feel that make driving in town a joy. But the battery of our preferred version is big enough to ensure that you're not limited to short journeys.”
Damien Dally, UK Managing Director, FIAT & Abarth, added: “It’s brilliant to see the 500e continue to be recognised as a class-leader by the What Car? team three years in a row. For it to claim at hat-trick of ‘Best Electric Small Car’ awards is testament to the enduring quality, design and smart technology of 500e.”
The FIAT 500e has received a number of awards since its launch, including ‘Best Electric City Car’ by Diesel&EcoCar Magazine, ‘Best Small Electric Car’ at the Parkers New Car Awards, ‘Best Small Electric Car’ at the Carbuyer Best Car Awards, ‘Best City Car’ at the Auto Express Awards and ‘Best Small Car’ at the Autocar Awards.
