F1's governing body is to inspect the Mercedes-Benz engine that powered Lewis Hamilton to victory at last Sunday's German Grand Prix.

The inspection, although the first of its kind this season, is apparently both random and routine, in accordance with the current two-race per engine regulation, and the so-called 'freeze' on free engine development.

The inspection will take place during scrutineering prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix next week, the Spanish newspaper Diario AS revealed.

The FIA informed Hamilton's team, McLaren-Mercedes, of the pending inspection in the form of an official communique on Tuesday, the newspaper added.

Haha, and Hamilton was randomly picked? Maybe they suspect he had SL65 BS's engine in the car last sunday so that made him so fast!:D jk

I don't think it's random at all. Hamilton's pace was unreal and like you say FIA want to make sure he's wanted powered by a turbo charged V12. Either way I don't suspect any drama out of this because there has been weekends when Ferrari have been driving at light speed.

FIA to conduct engine tests
Friday 25th July 2008

Mercedes' engines will reportedly be the first batch to be examined by the FIA as part of its annual random checks on all F1 engines.

Under F1 regulations there is an engine freeze which bans manufacturers from making any technical changes to their power units.

And in order to police the ban the FIA are set to begin annual routine checks on all manufacturers's engines, starting with Mercedes Benz.

According to Autosport this year's checks are taking place later than expected due to the FIA introducing better testing apparatus to ensure that the engine specifications haven't been changed.

Why wait until half the season is done? The FIA are a bunch of tards, witch hunt indeed.

Which hunt? Don't be so paranoid, please.

Ok...so explain to me why the FIA decides to start off with a Mclaren car that happens to have a good streak over just 2 races when Ferrari has been dominating ever since the second race. Oh, and don't give me that BS reason they are giving because we all know they could have just simply X-rayed the engine to tell if they were cheating.

And for the record I'm not paranoid, in fact this doesn't surprise me one bit.

just to spice the read up a lil :D

We recently reported that seven time Formula One World Champion, Michael “Schumey” Schumacher helped complete final test stages of the new Ferrari California. With past development involvement with other notable Ferrari cars such as the Enzo and 599 GTB, Schumacher has become a permanent fixture as a Ferrari test driver on and off the track.

Last week Ferrari had exclusively reserved the Nürburgring for testing of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia prototype, and our spy photographer on the scene noticed it was Michael Schumacher driving. Also, as co-driver he had his son, Mick, who seemed to be enjoying some quick laps at the famous Nordschleife.

Our spy photographer states that an hour later the track was closed after an accident was reported by the 430 Scuderia at Schwedenkreutz. Some rumors quickly emerged that its was Michael's son Mick who was driving the vehicle, but this is highly doubtful since Mick is only 9 years old, track conditions were damp, we can clearly see his silhouette in the passenger seat and the F430 Scuderia proto hit the guardrail at 250 km/h (155 mph).
According to Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm, "Michael called me and said 'We have crashed the car but are going to continue with another one',"
