Ferrari FXX Evoluzione

Welcome to a piece of history. You're about to witness the ultimate lap in the ultimate car driven by one of the world's greatest drivers.
It's a hot Friday in May, and the Ferrari FXX has just rolled into the pit garage at the famous Fiorano circuit. Only 30 of these incredible cars exist, 29 of them owned by some of Ferrari's most passionate customers, the final one by some bloke called Michael Schumacher.
Today, legendary Ferrari test driver Dario Benuzzi is going to set a new lap record around Fiorano in an FXX.
Ferrari describes the FXX as a mobile laboratory. It's not road legal, and you can't race it either. What it is, though, is a rolling test bed for top-secret new Ferrari technology, the stuff that's going to appear on the Enzo's successor in 2010.
Performance, handling, aerodynamics, braking: this is where Ferrari takes its F1 expertise and figures out how to apply it to a road car. This FXX is currently producing more than 850bhp, and its gearbox is about as fast at changing gear as Kimi or Felipe's Sunday drives.

The Fxx has been upgrated, The engine developps now 860 ps at 9500rpm and you need now only 60 MS to change gear. Suspensions have been redisigned as well as the aerodynamics and tires.

And/or the Zonda F getting 7:27 on the 'Ring. Or perhaps the recent achievements of the GT2 and GT-R on the 'Ring.

Not a whole lot of action for Ferrari at the 'Ring... But at least they can set the lap record at their own test track using their own car. Haha :D

ppl dont care about non road legall cars track times..
so...
on the other hand..how about giving sport auto the enzo. .i would like to see that track time..
i wonder why they dont..maybe they calculated on their fancy computers that such a move will result in embaressment..haha

Following earlier reports, Ferrari unveiled a new, modified version of the super-Enzo during this past weekend's Ferrari World Finals at its Mugello race track in Italy. As the name suggests, FXX Evoluzione is a further evolution of the FXX program that places "client test drivers" (i.e. obscenely wealthy Ferrari aficionados playing Schumacher) behind the wheel of developmental test beds to try out new equipment for Ferrari. In fact, Schumacher himself was reportedly on hand to unveil the car, having sporadically participated in the program over the past two years.
The FXX Evoluzione picks up where the "ordinary" FXX program left off, extending the program by an additional two years, based on an even more radical version of the track-only machine. With 35,000 kilometers worth of telemetry from the 20 cars, engineers compiled a series of tweaks to sharpen the car's capabilities. Output is boosted to a staggering 860 HP, redline is up to a shrieking 9,500 rpm, and shift times are down to a lightning-fast 60 milliseconds. The traction control system has been modified to be less invasive, more adaptable and can be adjusted in-cockpit on the fly between nine distinct settings from corner to corner. Suspension geometry has been modified, as has the aerodynamic package, which, along with fresh livery, accounts for a slightly different appearance compared to the previous version.
The result of all these and a few other small modifications (which you can read about in detail in the press release after the jump) means that the FXX Evoluzione can now lap the company's private Fiorano test track two seconds faster than its predecessor at 1 min 16 sec. The kit can be retrofitted to any of the 20 FXXs that took place in the program until now, and includes participation in a renewed program that will take these most extreme machines to two events each in North America, Europe and Asia (for a total of eight track events) each year over the next two years. Money may not be able to buy you happiness, but it can buy you a seat as a Ferrari test driver, which sounds like happiness to us.

Just curious as to what my eyes have noticed. Are those cameras situated on top of the front wheel-arches because I see no side-mirrors on this car?

The FXX has been pumping out 860hp for a long time now. Nothing new there.

Yes they are rear view cameras,man everytime i hear about that engine i go crazy,a masterpiece in engine technology 6.3l pushing 860hp and it revs up to 9500rpm :bowdown: :bowdown: :bowdown: :D

It does look like the F40 in the first picture.

However, I have never liked the FXX. I think it serves no purpose. It's not like they are building 30 cars to homologate a prototype for racing. I see it as one tacky customer relations program. I wonder if Enzo would produce a car like this. Why are "obscenely wealthy clients" getting the chance to be amateur development drivers anyway? Are the guys standing next to the car owners? It wouldn't surprise me because you'd have to be a Ferrari buyer for ages before they'd sell you one. But exactly what new equipment are they trying out in the cars, accessibility features for senior citizens?

Ferrari is milking this design for all its worth. The next Ferrari supercar had better be something special after all this you-pay-us-to-develop-it stuff.

When the FXX project was first announced, it was set to run for two years, culminating at the 2007 Ferrari World Finals in Mugello, Italy, this October. Originally there were to be just 29 FXXs, but last year an extra car was made for a certain M Schumacher, who has become very active in the FXX programme.

Now Ferrari has announced that the programme is to run for another two years with an ‘evolution package’ – which it says was developed with the ‘invaluable support’ of Schumacher – being made available to owners.

The upgrade includes an uprated version of the 6262cc V12 engine that revs to a scarcely believable 9500rpm (some 1000rpm higher than before) to produce 860bhp, up 48bhp. The gearchange time has been reduced to a Scuderia-matching 60 milliseconds, all of which helps the FXX ‘Evo’ lap Fiorano some 2sec quicker than the old car – in just 1min 16sec.

A new rear diffuser and a revised active front spoiler control system increase downforce by 25 per cent. There’s also new telemetry equipment, more durable Bridgestone tyres and more efficient ceramic discs that help the pads to last twice as long.
Fourteen track events are planned over the next two years, entry to which is included in the upgrade price of 185,000 euros plus VAT (around £151,000).
