A fatal traffic accident in Singapore involving a Ferrari 599 GTO, a taxi and a motor cycle has left two dead and three seriously injured.
The crash took place in the early morning hours on Saturday May 12th at the corner of Rochor Road and Victoria Street. This intersection is said to be well known for accidents with six occuring with the past 12 days.
The driver of the Ferrari, identified as 31-year-old Chinese financial investor Ma Chi, was pronounced dead at the scene while his female passenger in her 20s sustained head injuries.
In the video the Ferrari is seen running a red light at high speed colliding into the taxi which hit a motorcycle. The strength of the impact caused the taxi's engine to be thrown 30 meters away from the vehicle.
The taxi driver identified as 52-year-old Mr Cheng Teck Hock has since been declared brain dead and a female passenger in her 20s died of her injuries when arrived at Singapore General Hospital.
The motorcyclist, also in his 20s, sustained spinal injuries.

What a prick, it's a shame that in killing himself he also had to kill 2 other people.

Money can buy you a GTO, it can even buy you a hot girl - for the night at least - but it can't buy you responsibility and respect for speed much less the appreciation for other people's lives. My sympathies to the innocent victims. Alcohol may have been a factor? That stuff's death in a bottle.

That's why I gave it up 4 years ago(y)

It was 4am at night and with a young lady beside him - feel free to make your own conclusions.

There's a big furore over this in Singapore right now because the taxi driver he killed was a sole breadwinner, and the local media have been painting the Ferrari driver in a good light.

"I wonder what those red lights are for? Ah, well, I'll just ignore them..."

Talk about opening up a can of worms

"The dead PRC driver of the red Ferrari was the brother of Ma Yong, one of the big mafia bosses operating in Chongqing. During the crackdown initiated by Bo Xilai and Wang Lijun on the Chinese mafia, Ma Yong fled to Guangzhou in the south.

The Straits Times of May 14 described the deceased driver, Ma Chi, as a 31-year old private investor. The latter never graduated from college. According to some sources, Ma Chi used to launder at least US$ 1 million per month in HK."

Instead of apologizing to the victims of the fatal Bugis accident and offering them compensation, the family of the late PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi lashed out at Singaporeans instead for not being ‘sympathetic’ towards him!

The accident was caused by an intoxicated Ma Chi who beat the red lights and rammed into a Hyundai Sonata taxi at a junction between Rochor Road and Victoria Street.

Ma Chi was pronounced dead on the spot. The Japanese female passenger in the taxi died hours later in hospital while the Singaporean cabby Cheng Teck Hock passed away on Sunday evening, leaving behind three children between the ages 16 and 21.

The shocking accident fuels rampant anti-China sentiments among Singaporeans with many venting their frustration and anger on Ma Chi online.

The insensitive comments appear to rile Ma Chi’s family who asked a friend to lodge a complaint to a local Chinese tabloid:

“The rich is not always at fault. We urge netizens to hold back their poisonous tongues.”

One cousin of Ma Chi revealed he started earning his own money when he was 18 years old and is not a son of some rich tycoon:

“I read online that many netizens said my brother deserved to die as he is an offspring of a rich man. I want to tell you, if you cannot afford a Ferrari 599GTO, there is no need to say those who can pay for it is a rich man’s son.”

The Chinese tabloid then went on to trumpet Ma Chi’s ‘accomplishments’ in life, describing him as a ‘savvy investor’ who amassed a huge amount of wealth in merely two years.

Despite the constant harping on Ma Chi’s wealth, very little is known about the financial company he worked in, the type of investments he specialized in or his track record as an investor which raised serious questions on where he made his money from.

On the other hand, since Ma Chi and his family is so rich, they should have no difficulties supporting the family of the late Cheng Teck Hock who was the sole breadwinner and yet there is nothing heard from them so far.

That wasn't an accident. That was wreckless driving and grievous harm. A clear traffic light violation and breach of speed. Alcohol must have been involved.

It's unfortunate that he's also a new Singaporean citizen from China, there's a lot of xenophobia going on in Singapore right now about foreigners taking over the country.

No doubt, I think he was at fault.

back in november 2006 something very similar to this happened to me, until this day i still cant remember what happened, all i remember is 5 minutes before the accident and right after. all i remember is being smashed into the traffic light pole.

i never drink, not even touched an alcohol bottle before.

now everytime i pass an intersection even if it was green i slow down to make sure its clear.

Sad to hear. Did you recover well?

I was driving my brothers ml that time and it was totaled, all I had was arm scratches and minor bruises, but thankfully nothing big, if I were in a different car I think I wouldn't have made it.

The car that hit me was an old American car, it was a Lincoln I think, it was totaled and the driver was in a coma.
