‘F1’ number plate sells for record $740,000

The personalized number plate ‘F1’ has been sold for a whopping $740,000 in the UK to the man behind one of our favorite tuners, Kahn Design. New owner Afzal Kahn is said to be saving number plate for a McLaren Mercedes SLR supercar like the one pictured here, which is actually modified by his own tuning company. However, other reports claim it will be used on a Range Rover SUV.

The number plate was first registered more than 104 years ago and its previous owner was the Essex County Council, which used it on a humble Volvo S80 company car. The council will now be using all proceeds from the sale to start a driver training program for young boys, reports The Daily Mail.

This latest record may not last long, however, because UK’s oldest number plate, ‘A1,’ will be auctioned off in the near future and it’s tipped to reach an even higher figure.

Kahn Design owner selling 'F1' license plate for 10M GBP
Turned down a 6M GBP offer last year
Afzal Kahn, the owner of Kahn Design, has decided to sell the "F1" license plate and he is asking no less than 10,009,995 GBP.

It all started in 2007 when Afzal Kahn purchased the "F1” license plate for "just" 440,000 GBP and over the years he used it on several cars including this black McLaren SLR and also on a Bugatti Veyron. Last year, someone made him an offer for more than 6M GBP but Afzal turned down because he believed the license plate is worth even more than that.

Now, the most desirable license plate in the world is up for grabs but Afzal Kahn will not give it away for anything less than a staggering 10M GBP price tag. However, we won't be surprised if someone will eventually pick it up as an investment since the license plate's value will likely increase in the years to come.
