The Renault is a great machine but why didn't they use the new one and the new Focus ST which are the cars that are currently in production
The Mini for me, just because it's the best and still the benchmark :)

"It was decided for the mag story that the two newest hot hatches (the Mini and the Audi) would face the two most extreme used icons. Hence why no Megane 265, Golf R and other cars. " <--- EVOTV comment

For me this is the hottest hatch: 2011 Renault Mégane RS Clubsport
  • 265 hp, 360 Nm
  • semi-slicks
  • 1387 kg
  • 252 km/h
  • 0-100 km/h: 5,9 s
  • Hockenheimring: 1.13,5 min (as fast as an M3 CSL)

I really like the MINI, even if it is on the expensive side. The Megane in DeDe's post is, however, the one I think I would get if it was time to buy a hot hatch today.

Weight is everything. Even quattro in the wet can't match lightweight FWD's

Alas there's never a real substitute for weight which is why RS cars can't destroy their equivalent M and AMG IMO despite having the hardware to do so. Another thing that needs to be remember here is that all cars are effectively FWD even the A1 quattro so it's only advantage is exiting the corner and since it's weight is cripling it into the corner that advantage is long since gone.

Quite surprise just how tail happy the A1 could be, much more so than any of the other by the looks of it.
