Vs EVO: Audi RS3 vs Volkswagen Golf R

1. I have a very soft spot for 5-cylinder engines.

2. Hot hatch and AWD don't mix nicely in my book. A hot hatch must be pure and have a "singularity of purpose" to use Dan's words. A hot hatch typical handling should be about managing lift off oversteer, not about ultimate 4 wheel traction. This is not much fun!

3. Power isn't everything. If you can't go fast with 100 hp, then you won't with 500 either.

4. I am disappointed by how the Golf R and RS3 turned out in this review. I expected higher levels of fun.

I have serious troubles in trying to even my old school taste with modern, 21st century products. Most modern cars that have gone through my hands failed to satisfy me!

The only hot hatch I drove was the A45 AMG and it sucked.

Can't imagine a hot hatch soo much harsher than a 911. It was painful.

I want to test the Golf R/135i and report the result. Because the AMG is no go for me.

And I agree with @Giannis the simpler the hot hatch, the better the experience.

If it is available in UAE, please try to drive the Megane RS. You will not regret it! It doesn't get any better than this!

Sure Giannis but I don't even know if dealer exist :D very rare car but I will search and report.

Golf is very popular where I live. Honestly I've been craving a hot hatch for a while and my father in law always has one in his garage. Before it was a golf GTI that got replaced by A45. He usually praise Hot hatches for fun and nimbleness and I expected the A45 to be just like that. I was surprised by the lack of refinement in the A45 ! I literally couldn't drive it more than 10 minutes without serious pain. The seating position is all wrong, I couldn't sit right, my knees always hit the dashboard and If I set the seat back I will be far from the perfect elbow room distance the steering wheel and seats are high in the cabin.

I can write many pages on how unpleasant it was. The engine is good, real good. Little lag and very responsive and it pulled hard in gears. dual clutch was slow compared to PDK of course but that is very little to worry about. The suspension was the major let down. Very harsh, roads are very smooth around me and I had to stretch the test drive on of the smoothest highways around. I honestly felt fatigue after a 50Km drive. My cayman used to give me that feeling because sport plus seats are stiff, but this one is all wrong in many areas.

My main problems were mainly:
- I always felt seats will push me to each corner of the car. I never found the sweet spot
- The suspension was break your bone harsh. Not stiff, just harsh. The car was jumping around even with the smallest stone on the road.

So no A45 for me.
