Comparison tests EVO Track Battle - Audi S3 vs BMW M135i

I like how Bovvers left traction control turned on while driving on a race track. Switching it off is just too mainstream.

The xDrive would be even faster IMO.
so as RS3... not the right comparison done here... but I guess the guy will race them again when new RS3 will come out... RS3 will kill Beemer in one set...

Does M135 have the artificial engine sound via speakers thingy? It sounds so much better than the Audi.

...not the right comparison done here...
Why?

but I guess the guy will race them again when new RS3 will come out... RS3 will kill Beemer in one set...

And M2 will kick RS3 in 0 set...

Goddamnit, it is been so long since we had a fan boy battle of fictitious cars.

yep! I dont see a problem though. My ST also have some kind of fake noise but instead of speakers, Ford use a tube to feed sound into the ST's cabin. As long it sounds good Im all for it.

A tube to vent some engine noise into the cabin is a-okay IMO. May be even using speakers to play the actual engine noise in the cabin. But synthesizing a completely new engine note and playing it is crossing a line in my book. But then again many other more egregious transgressions of lines from my holy automotive bible have happened... :oldman:

As long they don't do the way like Clio RS. With a touch of a button the car sounds like Nissan GTR or an old Renault racing car.

even m5/m6 use the actual noise of the engine from speakers

Now that we stepped in it, as far as I know it doesn't play the actual engine noise the engine is making in real time - as in recording it with a microphone in the engine compartment and playing it back in the cabin via the speakers but instead the speakers are playing a noise synthesized with a DSP that is linked to the ECU. Now the DSP might be programmed to play the real engine noise that a S62Tu makes that they probably recorded in some sound studio but it is not the what the engine is making at that point in time in the car. They could just as easily make it play the sound of a F1 car by programming the DSP differently.

BMW's not so clear explanation -
The Active Sound Design technology specially developed for the new BMW M5 takes its cues from the driving situation at any one time to deliver an accurate reproduction of the engine's sound through the car's audio system. The system's digital signal processing exchanges data directly with the engine management, allowing it to reflect the engine's revs and torque, and the car's speed over the road. The result over a smoothly driven journey is a discreet soundtrack in keeping with the harmonious and assured characteristics of the V8 powerplant. A stamp on the accelerator, meanwhile, prompts an immediate audible response to match the instantaneous – and typically M – burst of power from beneath the bonnet.

In generating its signals, Active Sound Design takes its cues from the firing sequence of the eight-cylinder engine and the frequency range of the exhaust system. This gives the driver an extremely accurate impression of current engine load and an even more intense sensation of the V8’s high-performance characteristics. At the same time the Active Sound Design control unit ensures an even spread of sound across all five seats of the new BMW M5, while observing the legal guidelines governing noise emissions inside and outside the car. The characteristics of the sound produced by the technology also adjust to the engine settings selected by the driver. For example, switching to “Sport” or “Sport+” mode sharpens not only the engine’s responsiveness but also the acoustic experience inside the car.

RS3 and A45AMG for that matter are a completely different category (and price bracket here in the UK). Those and M2 will be at least £10k more expensive than the M135i.

M135i, Golf GTI/R, S3 and A250 engineered by AMG are similarly priced here.

Just makes the M135i that much better value (and the discounts here on these are far higher than the others!)

Oh, that's the old BMW BDSM (BMW Digital Sound Management) again. Works wonders! Please, google that at home.

keep dreaming, there is RS3 coupe on its way... 5cyl Turbo banger... don't think so M2 or A45AMG is any threat to it at all... but don't worry we will see that im sure...

oh yeah, thats what i mean, but its not like they recorded ferrari engine or something, its the same engine thats in front of you. And its probably 99% how engine is sounding at the same moment

Are you kidding me? The M 235iS X Drive with BMW Performance package and optional limited slip differential will completely destroy the RS3. It's also got one more trick up it's sleeve that Audi has no possible remedy for - JOY.
