EVO: BMW M5 v Panamera S v E63 AMG v Jaguar XFR

If you want a comparison with Panamera turbo, here is another test by Evo. And comparing, the results from the two tests, the M5 is faster that the Turbo to 150mph and around the track. Yes, the test was on a different day, so all those caveats apply, but that test also features the Jag and it was faster on that test than this test, so if anything the conditions were probably more ideal when the Turbo was tested.

E63 PP 1.26.8

XFR 1.28.2

Panny Turbo 1.26.5
XFR (when tested along with turbo) 1.27.9

The RS6 needs to hurry up,and get here. Hopefully it can proclaim the top spot.

Indeed. They already scored with the amazing looks of the new A6, so if they work hard on a lot of aluminum/carbon fiber and more, to lose the weight of the car, and bring that magic from RS4 B7 and R8, then it will be an easy win. But if they go the RS5, RS3 way.. They its no way.

Why didnt they test the Panamera Turbo instead?? I thought it would crush the M5.

Crush the M5, lol the thought alone makes me giggle like a school girl. Right here above by Sunny is a nice example. You really need a Panamera Turbo S to beat an M5, and even then the difference is minimal, despite the price gap and the AWD advantage.

Also, the S8 has no business with the M5. And not only because it's so ugly :D :D :D
You have to wait for the RS6 for that, and I have no doubt it will be faster than the M5. Not as much fun or as pure to drive though. Same as always basically.

M5 is where my checkbook is aimed.

The Panamera is an alluring car, the interior, the idea of driving a Porsche, but the ugly arse is just ill-shaped.

Yeah a Panamera Turbo S would out perform and M5, as it should considering it is nearly double the price.

Interesting to see that the trio RS5, M3 and C63 are all faster then the M5 on track.

Haha def not "crush", but there is a difference between Panamera Turbo S and F10 M5. I'd still consider the Porsche to be in a league of its own, and not just (bad) looks wise :D. Reference to the picture - almost one sec on 2.3 miles, with less hp and more weight.
People driving 10/10s can get the Panamera, the rest of us would be content with the M5.

Not at all. They are smaller and lighter so not really a surprise. Besides this track might not be a highspeed track and we all know M5 is quicker in a straightline than the others. And different circumstances may be a part of it to, different day, different temperature etc etc. :)

True but at a glance it does look to be on par with Hockenheim where the M5 is actually faster than the others.

Different track , different driver, Hockenheim suits M5 better. There are so many factors to be considered. Its difficult to compare laptimes unless its done under same conditions, its the most fair way to compare laptimes.

Hockenheim is a tight track where weight generally is at a disadvantage so maybe it's driver or the conditions on the day that give it the advantage over the others.

Track times are a rough gauge of a car's ability, nothing more.

Those AutoBild Sportscars-times are not really comparable, because the M5 was driven by BMW's testdriver (Claudia Hürtgen) and the Panny Turbo S by an AutoBild Sportscars-driver.
I'm sure that an upcoming head-to-head comparison will show us better Sachsenring-times for both (at least for the Panamera Turbo S, since its twin-brother, the Turbo Powerkit managed a much better time around Sachsenring).
The M5 is capable for a sub-1.38-time on those Pilot Super Sports IMO.

The S8 being present would have been a good indicator as to how well the RS6 might fare, though unlike you I am not so confident that the new RS6 will be quicker, not this time.

M5 is very impressive. The E63 PP right on its tails.

If someone were offering, I still might take the Panny S, I think it "carries its weight", per-se, better off the track.
