Top F1 drivers have expressed concern that new regulations in 2007 have further decreased the prospect of overtaking during races.

Mark Webber and Felipe Massa told the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport that they will blame the new 19,000 rpm rev-limit, introduced for the start of the so called 'engine freeze' era in 2007, when spectators begin to complain about processional Grand Prix.

"The performance of all the engines are practically the same," Red Bull racer Webber said.

Auto Motor und Sport estimates that perhaps only 20bhp separates the entire field this year.

Webber added: "Because of that it is practically impossible to get in the slipstream of the car in front so you can overtake."

Ferrari's Massa comments: "We now lack the kick to overtake, which you could get before from the higher revs."

It seems Webber uses any excuse possible as a scape goat for the fact he hasn't lived up to firstly his immense cockiness, nor the expectation of many eager Australians built up as a result. In my mind, he really has been a disappointment, yet reading interviews from him, it seems he has no clue as to what a let down he has been, nor how much he really has sucked.

Regardless, I think it's sad that a sport that should fundamentally be about creating joy and as a means of entertainment has become bogged down with such legalism ... I guess it's just a product of today's world we live in ...

I really don't support some of the changes made in F1 recently, and looks to become even worse:(

I agree, the new direction the F1 authorities is taking the sports is not good for the sports. It kills competition which in essence is the lack of excitement. Races will be more predictable: pole setters will be the most natural winners.

^ This isn't about Weber making exuses. Even tough he was the first to say this, there are others drivers, and not only, sharing his belief.

The new tyres and engines limitations are taking almost every every bit of overtaking possibility out. And the aerodynamics won't help either.

Now it's up to Shell and Elf and engineers to give extra punch on low and mid range somehow.

We need slicks back, and a new type or aerodynamics. Perhaps returning to moveble aerodynamics or ground effects aerodynamics.
And if this won't be enough, bring back active suspension and all electronics in active ride cars.

Now aerodynamic appendices and grooves = accidents and lots of it. We already have too much accidents.

Those cars need to be stabilised somehow, and without stabilision anything over 250 HP is too much. And we don't have ground effects, movable aerodynamics, active suspension or active ride, and without slicks and aerodynamic appendices
I hate to think what will happen.

These aren't go cart.

Power is nothing without control.

My interest in F1 racing is not the same as other times,i barely watch the entire race.I mostly watch the start were the whole essence is,in my opinion.I find it completely dull with no overtakings. The driver who takes the poll position finishes first, so why loose my Sundays siesta? This year is going to be even worse since Shumachers retirement and Montoyas leaving F1.I think the Spanish driver will win this years championship as well because he has no rivals,Raikonnen is not as good, provided his car is flawless of course.

I mostly agree, but we did have also good/very good/great races like Hungary, Turkey, China and Brazil.

We need slicks/tyre grip and an efficient aerodynamics that won't interfere in overtaking. And overburst or no engine limitations.
